Type 1 vs Type 2
The connector on your car's charging inlet decides which cable you need. In the UK there are two AC connector types:
Type 2

The standard for virtually all EVs sold in the UK and EU since around 2018. Supports single-phase (up to 7.4kW) and three-phase (up to 22kW) AC. If your car is recent, it's almost certainly Type 2.
Type 1
J1772 · 5 pins
Found on older Asian-market cars — the first-generation Nissan Leaf (pre-2018), Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, early Kia Soul EV. Single-phase only. These cars need a Type 1 to Type 2 cable for UK charge points.
