Ford Mustang Mach-E
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your Mustang Mach-E+−
The Ford Mustang Mach-E has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which Ford Mustang Mach-E versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Ford Mustang Mach-E, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Ford Mustang Mach-E Select
- Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium
- Ford Mustang Mach-E GT
- Ford Mustang Mach-E Standard Range
- Ford Mustang Mach-E Extended Range
Whichever Mustang Mach-E trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is an all-electric SUV on sale in the UK from 2020, bringing the Mustang name to a five-door family-sized body. It is available in Standard Range and Extended Range battery configurations: the Standard Range uses a 68 to 72kWh pack with DC charging at up to around 115kW, and the Extended Range uses a larger 91 to 99kWh pack capable of up to 150kW DC, with the high-performance GT version pushing higher still. All variants charge through a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for DC rapid charging.
For home and public AC charging, the cable you bring is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The Mach-E's onboard AC charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases across all trims. DC rapid charging, which is where the car's real long-distance speed comes in, uses the charger's own tethered cable rather than one you buy.
The Extended Range pack takes around a third longer to fill on AC but offers noticeably higher DC peak speeds on long journeys. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Mustang Mach-E need?
The Mach-E's onboard AC charger tops out at 11kW on three phases. The vast majority of UK homes have a single-phase supply, which caps home charging at 7.4kW no matter what cable or wallbox you have. For those owners, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the sensible pick: it delivers the maximum speed your home supply allows at a lower cost than a 22kW three-phase lead.
A 22kW cable earns its place if you have a three-phase supply at home or you regularly use 22kW public AC charge points, where the Mach-E will draw its full 11kW. On a single-phase home setup the higher-rated cable charges at exactly the same 7.4kW as the cheaper option. If you do occasionally visit 22kW public points, the 22kW cable is worth having for those sessions, but for most UK owners the 7.4kW lead does the job at every charge.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the Extended Range 98kWh battery from empty costs roughly £7 to £8 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £26 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. For the Standard Range 72kWh pack, expect roughly £5 to £6 at off-peak rates. Overnight home charging on a dedicated EV tariff is comfortably the most economical way to run a Mach-E day to day. Check current rates, as tariffs vary.

Ford Mustang Mach-E FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the Ford Mustang Mach-E need?+−
The Ford Mustang Mach-E has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What cable does the Ford Mustang Mach-E need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charging. The Mach-E's onboard charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases, though on a single-phase UK home supply the rate is capped at 7.4kW. DC rapid charging at up to 150kW uses the charger's tethered cable, not one you buy.
Can the Ford Mustang Mach-E charge at 22kW?+−
No. The Mach-E's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW, so that is the fastest it can charge on AC whatever cable or charge point you use. It will draw 11kW on a three-phase supply and 7.4kW on a standard single-phase home. A 22kW cable does not unlock extra speed beyond 11kW.
How long does the Ford Mustang Mach-E take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW home wallbox, the Extended Range pack takes around 13 to 14 hours from empty, making overnight charging the natural routine. The Standard Range is quicker at around 10 hours. If you charge regularly rather than running to empty, a nightly top-up of a typical daily distance takes only two to four hours.
What length cable do I need for the Ford Mustang Mach-E?+−
A 5m Type 2 cable suits most driveway setups. The Mach-E is a larger SUV, so measure from your wallbox to where the charging port sits on the car when parked. If the wallbox is set back or you park nose-in, a 7m or 10m lead is a safer choice to avoid stretching the cable.
