Charging guide

Charging
your GAC.

GAC's UK electric line-up currently comprises the Aion V, a full BEV SUV with a Type 2 inlet and an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. It takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging.

Because the Aion V has a three-phase charger, the cable choice can affect how quickly it charges on public AC infrastructure. Pick your model below for its exact charging times and recommended cable, or read the brand-wide guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a GAC need?

The GAC Aion V charges through a Type 2 inlet, so the lead you need is a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A 5m length suits most driveways and wallboxes; go for 7m or 10m for on-street parking or a charge point set well back from where you park.

The Aion V has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. Almost all UK homes are single-phase, which caps home charging at 7.4kW regardless of the cable, so a 7.4kW cable delivers the full speed your home supply can provide. A 22kW rated cable is only worth the extra cost if you have a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC charge points, where the Aion V will pull its full 11kW.

For most GAC owners charging at home, a single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the practical choice. There is no reason to pay for a 22kW cable unless you have access to a three-phase supply or 22kW public AC infrastructure.

Contact us
What inlet does the GAC Aion V use?+

The GAC Aion V uses a Type 2 inlet, the same standard connector found on the vast majority of UK public charge points and home wallboxes. You need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable to charge it at home or on AC public infrastructure.

What charging cable does a GAC Aion V need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most driveways. The Aion V has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a standard single-phase UK home it charges at 7.4kW. A 7.4kW cable gives the full speed your home supply can provide.

Can the GAC Aion V charge at 22kW?+

No. The Aion V's onboard charger tops out at 11kW on three phases. It cannot reach 22kW on AC regardless of the cable. On a standard single-phase UK home it charges at 7.4kW, and even on a three-phase supply it is capped at 11kW.

Is a 22kW cable worth buying for the GAC Aion V?+

Only if you have a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC charge points. On those, the Aion V will pull its full 11kW with a 22kW cable. On a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4kW cable is sufficient and there is no benefit in spending more.

What length cable do I need for my GAC Aion V?+

5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Step up to 7m or 10m if you park on the street, share a charger, or your wallbox is positioned far from the car's charging port. Buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably, as longer cables cost more and are heavier to coil.
