Why this fits your Inster+

The Hyundai Inster has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which Hyundai Inster versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Hyundai Inster, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Hyundai Inster 01
  • Hyundai Inster 02
  • Hyundai Inster Cross

Whichever Inster trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Hyundai Inster.

The Hyundai Inster is a city-focused electric hatchback that arrived in the UK in 2025 as Hyundai's most accessible EV. It comes in 01, 02 and Cross trims and is available with two battery options: a standard 42kWh pack and a larger 49kWh pack for those who need a bit more range. Both charge via a Type 2 inlet for AC and CCS for DC rapid charging, with a peak DC rate of around 85kW.

To charge at home or at a public AC point, you bring a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. At a rapid DC station, the charger provides its own tethered lead, so nothing extra is needed. The Inster's onboard AC charger can accept up to 11kW on three phases, but whether that speed is achievable in practice depends on the type of electrical supply you are connected to.

The smaller 42kWh battery fills faster on any charger. Both variants share the same peak DC rate of around 85kW. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Inster need?

The Inster's onboard AC charger is rated to 11kW, but that figure requires a three-phase supply. Nearly all UK homes are single-phase, which limits AC charging to 7.4kW regardless of what the cable says on the box. At 7.4kW, even the larger 49kWh battery fills in around six to seven hours, which fits within any overnight session. A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the right answer for home charging.

A 22kW three-phase cable is only worth considering if your property has a three-phase supply, or you plan to use 22kW public AC chargers regularly. In those cases the Inster can draw its full 11kW. On a standard home wallbox, however, both cable ratings deliver the same 7.4kW, so there is no speed advantage to spending more. Go with 7.4kW for home use unless you have a specific reason to need three-phase compatibility.

What does it cost to charge?

A full charge of the 42kWh battery from empty costs roughly £3 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, or roughly £11 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p per kWh. The 49kWh battery costs roughly £4 off-peak or around £13 at standard rates. Either way, the Inster is an economical car to charge at home. Public rapid charging runs significantly higher at around 45p to 80p per kWh. Check current rates, as tariffs change.

Contact us
Can the Hyundai Inster charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the Hyundai Inster has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Hyundai Inster need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The Inster has a standard Type 2 AC inlet. For a single-phase home supply, a 7.4kW cable is the most practical choice and delivers the full speed your connection allows. A 22kW cable is only worth the premium if you have a three-phase home supply or regularly use 22kW public chargers.

Can the Hyundai Inster charge at 11kW?+

Yes, but only on a three-phase connection. The Inster's onboard charger supports up to 11kW across three phases. Most UK homes run on a single-phase supply, so the realistic home charging rate is 7.4kW. A three-phase supply or a 22kW public AC charger would allow the full 11kW to flow.

How long does the Hyundai Inster take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox, the 42kWh battery takes around five to six hours from empty, and the 49kWh pack takes roughly six to seven hours. Both fit comfortably within an overnight charge. A 3-pin granny cable extends that to around 18 to 20 hours, making it a true backup option rather than a daily method.

What cable length do I need for the Hyundai Inster?+

A 5m cable is the standard choice and handles most home driveways and public charging bays without difficulty. If your parking spot is some distance from the wallbox, or the layout of your drive means the cable needs to travel further than usual, a 7m or 10m lead prevents the frustration of just falling short.
