Why this fits your EV4+

The Kia EV4 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which Kia EV4 versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Kia EV4, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Kia EV4 Air
  • Kia EV4 Air Sr
  • Kia EV4 58.3kWh
  • Kia EV4 81.4kWh
  • Kia EV4 GT Line
  • Kia EV4 GT Line S

Whichever EV4 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Kia EV4.

The Kia EV4 is a first-generation fully electric hatchback from Kia, on sale in the UK from 2025. It is available with two battery options: a 58.3kWh pack and a larger 81.4kWh pack, both built on a 400V architecture. Charging is through a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for DC rapid charging, and at home or on public AC points you use a Type 2 to Type 2 cable.

The EV4 comes with an 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger as standard. On a single-phase UK home supply that rate is capped at 7.4kW, which is typical for a home wallbox. Where three-phase power is available, such as at public 22kW AC points, the EV4 can pull its full 11kW. DC rapid charging on public chargers reaches up to around 138kW and uses the charger's own tethered lead.

Select your battery size above. The 58.3kWh version charges faster on AC but the 81.4kWh version is better suited to longer journeys. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the EV4 need?

The EV4's 11kW AC charger is a capable unit, but single-phase UK homes cap AC charging at 7.4kW whatever cable or wallbox you use. For most owners at home, a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the right and more affordable choice. The 81.4kWh battery takes around 11 to 12 hours to fill at that rate, which fits a standard overnight window.

A 22kW three-phase cable is worth considering if you have a three-phase home installation or frequently charge at three-phase public AC stations. In those situations the EV4 draws its full 11kW, reducing charge time compared with a single-phase session. On a standard home setup a 22kW cable brings no additional speed, so there is little practical reason to buy one unless you plan to use it elsewhere.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 81.4kWh battery from empty on an off-peak tariff of around 7.5p per kWh costs around £6. The 58.3kWh pack costs roughly £4.40 for the same session. At a standard rate of around 27p per kWh those figures rise to around £22 and £16 respectively. Running on an overnight EV tariff keeps costs low for everyday use. Public rapid charging costs significantly more per kWh and is best kept for longer trips. Check current tariff rates.

Contact us
Can the Kia EV4 charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the Kia EV4 has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Kia EV4 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. The EV4 supports up to 11kW AC on three phases. For a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4kW cable gives you the full available speed. A three-phase 22kW cable unlocks 11kW only with a three-phase supply or at 22kW public AC points.

Does the Kia EV4 charge at 11kW?+

Yes, but only on a three-phase supply. Most UK homes are single-phase and cap at 7.4kW. At a public 22kW AC point or a rare three-phase home setup the EV4 will draw its full 11kW. Rapid DC charging up to around 138kW is also available via the CCS port using a charger's tethered cable.

How long does the Kia EV4 take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox the 81.4kWh battery takes roughly 11 to 12 hours from empty, fitting comfortably within an overnight charge. The 58.3kWh version takes around 8 to 8.5 hours. On a three-phase supply at 11kW those times drop to around 7.5 and 5.5 hours respectively.

What length cable do I need for the Kia EV4?+

A 5m cable works well for most home driveways. The EV4 is a hatchback-sized car, so even with the inlet some distance from the wallbox, 5m tends to be enough. If your wallbox is on the opposite side of the driveway from where the inlet sits, a 7m lead removes any awkward stretching.
