Kia Sportage PHEV
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your Sportage PHEV+−
The Kia Sportage PHEV has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.2kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

Charging
the Kia Sportage PHEV.
The Kia Sportage PHEV (fifth generation, 2022 onwards) is a compact family SUV and one of Kia's best-selling models in the UK. It pairs a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and a 13.8kWh battery, offering enough electric range for most short urban trips before the petrol engine steps in. Charging uses a Type 2 inlet, and the cable you carry for home wallboxes and public AC points is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
The Sportage PHEV's onboard AC charger runs at 7.2kW on a single phase, which is a comfortable match for a standard 7kW or 7.4kW home wallbox. There is no DC rapid charging on this model: all charging is AC only, and 7.2kW is the maximum the car will ever draw through the Type 2 inlet.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Sportage PHEV need?
With the Sportage PHEV's 7.2kW single-phase onboard charger, a standard 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable already delivers everything the car can use at home. There is no reason to look at three-phase or 22kW cables here: the car's single-phase charger cannot make use of additional phases, and no cable upgrade will push charging above 7.2kW.
A 5m cable handles the majority of driveway situations. The Sportage PHEV's battery is relatively small at 13.8kWh, so even if the cable takes a few minutes to reach the inlet, the charge itself is quick. If your parking spot puts the charging port further from the wallbox than expected, a 7m cable gives comfortable slack without overspending on a longer lead.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the 13.8kWh battery from empty costs roughly £1 on an off-peak tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £3.70 at a standard rate of roughly 27p per kWh. At 7.2kW the battery can be fully recharged in under two hours, so an evening plug-in is all most owners need. Check current tariffs, as rates vary between suppliers.

Kia Sportage PHEV FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the Kia Sportage PHEV charge at 22kW?+−
No, the Kia Sportage PHEV has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 7.2kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Kia Sportage PHEV need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC chargers. The Sportage PHEV's onboard charger accepts up to 7.2kW on a single phase, and the car has no DC rapid charging capability. A standard 7.4kW cable is the right choice for most owners.
Can the Kia Sportage PHEV rapid charge?+−
No. The Sportage PHEV does not support DC rapid charging. All charging is AC only, capped at 7.2kW by the onboard charger. Even on a fast public AC unit, the car will draw no more than 7.2kW. Plan for home or workplace charging rather than rapid-charge stops.
How long does the Kia Sportage PHEV take to charge at home?+−
At 7.2kW on a home wallbox, the 13.8kWh battery refills from empty in roughly two hours. That is well within an evening's parking window. A standard 3-pin socket would take closer to five or six hours and is best treated as a backup option.
What length cable do I need for the Kia Sportage PHEV?+−
A 5m cable is the standard starting point and covers most home driveways. If your wallbox sits at the far end of the drive or you park facing away from the charger, a 7m lead gives the reach to plug in comfortably without straining the cable.
