Charging guide

Charging
your LDV.

LDV's electric van range in the UK currently consists of two variants of the EV80, a larger electric panel van aimed at commercial operators. Both variants use a Type 2 inlet, so they both take the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home base and public AC charging.

Neither EV80 variant has a three-phase onboard charger. The 2016 model charges at 7kW AC on a single phase, and the 2017 model at 6.6kW. Both are within what a standard 7.4kW cable can deliver, so there is no reason to buy a more powerful cable. Pick your model below for its specific charge times, or read the guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a LDV need?

Both LDV EV80 variants use a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. For a commercial van that parks at a depot or charges at a works wallbox, a 7m or 10m cable is often more practical than 5m, giving you reach in a wider range of parking positions. No LDV needs a Type 1 cable.

Neither EV80 variant has a three-phase onboard charger. The maximum AC rate is 7kW, which is just below the 7.4kW limit of a standard cable. A 7.4kW cable is already more than either model can draw, so there is no benefit to buying a 22kW cable for the LDV range.

Because the EV80 has a 56kWh battery, AC charging from a standard wallbox takes several hours, so connecting overnight at a depot or workshop is the typical pattern. A single 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the right choice for both LDV EV80 variants.

Do both LDV EV80 variants use a Type 2 charging cable?+

Yes. Both the 2016 and 2017 versions of the LDV EV80 use a Type 2 inlet, so they both take the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home base and public AC charging. No LDV in the current range needs a Type 1 cable.

What charging cable does an LDV EV80 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The EV80 charges at 6.6kW or 7kW AC depending on the variant, both within what a standard 7.4kW cable can deliver. For a van that parks in different positions at a depot or site, a 7m or 10m cable gives useful extra reach.

Can an LDV EV80 charge at 22kW?+

No. Neither EV80 variant has a three-phase onboard charger. The maximum AC rate is 7kW on a single phase, so a 7.4kW cable already exceeds what the van can draw. A 22kW cable would add cost with no charging benefit.

How long does it take to charge an LDV EV80?+

On a 7kW wallbox, the EV80's 56kWh battery takes roughly 8 to 9 hours for a full charge from empty, making overnight charging at a depot the most practical approach. The van also supports DC rapid charging at up to 40 to 50kW for faster top-ups when needed.

What length cable do I need for an LDV EV80?+

For a commercial van, 7m or 10m is often more useful than 5m, since the parking position at a depot or charge point may vary. A longer cable gives flexibility without needing to reposition the vehicle. Choose the shortest length that comfortably covers your typical parking situation.
