Why this fits your Countryman PHEV+

The Mini Countryman PHEV has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 3.7kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Mini Countryman PHEV.

The Mini Countryman PHEV (F60 generation) is a compact plug-in hybrid SUV that was sold in the UK between 2017 and 2023 under the Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 name. It pairs a petrol engine with a small 10kWh battery, giving a modest electric-only range of around 25 miles WLTP. Charging is via a Type 2 inlet, the same standard connector used across most modern EVs and PHEVs on UK public chargers.

For AC charging at home or at a public wallbox, you need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. With only 10kWh to fill, charge sessions are short, so the cable's maximum current rating matters less here than on a long-range BEV. The Countryman PHEV's onboard AC charger is rated at just 3.7kW, meaning the car itself limits the charging speed regardless of what the cable or charger can supply.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Countryman PHEV need?

The Countryman PHEV's onboard charger tops out at 3.7kW, so a standard 7.4kW Type 2 cable already delivers twice what the car can ever draw. There is no performance benefit in choosing a higher-rated cable: 11kW or 22kW cables will still charge the battery at 3.7kW because the car's onboard charger is the limiting factor.

A 5m Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the practical choice for most owners. The 3.7kW charging rate means even a 3-pin granny cable can top up the 10kWh pack overnight in a pinch, though a dedicated wallbox is preferable for day-to-day use. Because charging sessions are short, cable length is more about convenience on your particular driveway than speed.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 10kWh battery from empty costs roughly £0.75 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £2.70 on a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. Because the pack is small, a full charge takes only a couple of hours even on a standard home socket, though a wallbox is always more convenient. Check current tariff rates, as they change regularly.

Good
questions.

Contact us
Can the Mini Countryman PHEV charge at 22kW?+

No, the Mini Countryman PHEV has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 3.7kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Mini Countryman PHEV need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The car's onboard charger is rated at 3.7kW, so a standard 7.4kW cable is all you need. There is no benefit in choosing a higher-rated cable, as the car cannot draw more than 3.7kW on AC regardless.

Can the Mini Countryman PHEV charge at 7.4kW or faster?+

No. The Countryman PHEV's onboard AC charger is limited to 3.7kW. Even on a 7.4kW wallbox with a 7.4kW cable, the car will only draw 3.7kW. The small 10kWh battery still fills in roughly 2.5 to 3 hours at that rate, which suits most daily routines.

How long does the Mini Countryman PHEV take to charge at home?+

From empty, the 10kWh battery takes around 2.5 to 3 hours on a 3.7kW wallbox. On a standard 3-pin household socket (around 2.3kW) it takes roughly 4 to 5 hours. Either way, plugging in overnight or during the day gives a full charge well within a few hours.

What length cable do I need for the Mini Countryman PHEV?+

A 5m cable suits most home driveways. If your wallbox is mounted further from where the car parks, or the charging port is on the far side of the car, a 7m lead gives more comfort. A 10m cable is rarely needed for a PHEV used mainly at home, but can be useful at locations where the charge point is set back.
