Nissan Micra EV
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your Micra EV+−
The Nissan Micra EV has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Nissan Micra EV.
The Nissan Micra EV is the sixth generation of the Micra nameplate, revived as a fully electric hatchback from 2025. Built on the same platform as the Renault 5 E-Tech, it comes in two battery options: a 40kWh version with DC rapid charging at up to 80kW, and a 52kWh version supporting up to 100kW DC. Both charge via a Type 2 AC inlet for home and public AC charging, and a CCS port for rapid DC charging. The 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger is the same across both versions.
For day-to-day charging at home or at a public wallbox, the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The Micra EV's onboard AC charger handles up to 11kW on three phases, though most UK homes supply single-phase power and are capped at 7.4kW. DC rapid charging uses the charger's own tethered cable. Which battery you have affects how long a full charge takes, but not which cable you need.
Select your battery option above. The 40kWh version charges faster from empty at home; the 52kWh offers more range. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Micra EV need?
Both Micra EV variants share the same 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger. On a standard UK single-phase home supply, AC charging is capped at 7.4kW, and a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is enough to deliver that full speed. There is no benefit in using a 22kW cable at home unless your supply is three-phase, which most UK homes are not.
At 7.4kW, the 40kWh battery charges from empty in roughly five and a half hours, and the 52kWh pack takes around seven hours, both well within an overnight window. A 22kW three-phase cable is worthwhile if you regularly use 22kW public AC chargers or have three-phase power available, letting the Micra EV draw its full 11kW. Otherwise, save the money and use a standard 7.4kW cable. A 5m lead suits most situations.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 40kWh battery from empty costs roughly £3.00 at an off-peak rate of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £10.80 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. For the 52kWh version, expect roughly £3.90 off-peak or around £14 at the standard rate. As a compact city car, the Micra EV is economical to run at home, particularly on an overnight off-peak tariff. Check current tariff rates before budgeting.

Nissan Micra EV FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the Nissan Micra EV charge at 22kW?+−
Yes, the Nissan Micra EV has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Nissan Micra EV need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. Both battery versions share the same 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger. On a standard UK single-phase supply a 7.4kW cable delivers the maximum available speed. A 22kW three-phase cable only helps if you have a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC chargers.
Can the Nissan Micra EV charge at 11kW?+−
Yes, but only on a three-phase supply. The onboard charger supports up to 11kW across three phases. On a standard single-phase UK home wallbox, the car charges at 7.4kW regardless of what the cable or wallbox is rated at. Three-phase home supplies are uncommon in the UK.
How long does the Nissan Micra EV take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW single-phase wallbox, the 40kWh version takes around five to six hours from empty, and the 52kWh version around seven hours. Both are comfortably covered overnight. On a three-phase supply at 11kW those times drop to around four and five hours respectively.
What length cable do I need for the Nissan Micra EV?+−
A 5m cable works for the vast majority of driveways and public charge bays. The Micra EV is a small car, so a 5m lead reaches in most situations. If your wallbox is on the far side of the parking area, a 7m lead gives extra comfort and avoids any strain at the connector.
