Alpine A290
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your A290+−
The Alpine A290 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which Alpine A290 versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Alpine A290, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Alpine A290 GT
- Alpine A290 GTS
- Alpine A290 GT Plus
- Alpine A290 GTS Plus
- Alpine A290 GT Premium
- Alpine A290 GT Performance
Whichever A290 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Alpine A290.
The Alpine A290 is a performance electric hatchback that arrived in UK showrooms in 2025, built on the same Renault 5 platform but tuned for a sharper, more driver-focused character. It carries a 52kWh battery and charges through a Type 2 inlet for AC sessions and a CCS port for rapid DC. UK trim levels run from GT through GTS and GT Plus to the GT Performance.
When you charge at home or at a public AC post, the cable you provide is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The A290's onboard charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases for AC, and the car rapid charges on DC at up to 100kW, using the charger's own tethered cable rather than anything you buy.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the A290 need?
The A290's 11kW onboard charger operates across three phases to reach its maximum speed. The catch for most UK owners is that domestic supplies are single-phase, capping any home wallbox at 7.4kW. In practice, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable delivers the full speed available on a standard UK driveway and gets the 52kWh battery charged overnight without effort.
A 22kW three-phase cable earns its place only if you regularly use 22kW public AC charge points, where the A290 pulls its full 11kW, or if your property has an unusual three-phase supply. On a single-phase home connection a 22kW cable and a 7.4kW cable perform identically, so the cheaper option is the sensible starting point for most drivers.
What does it cost to charge?
Topping up the 52kWh battery from empty costs roughly £4 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £14 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. Overnight charging on a dedicated EV tariff is by far the cheapest way to run the A290 day to day. Public rapid DC charging typically costs far more per kWh, so it suits longer trips better than routine top-ups. Always check current tariff rates.

Alpine A290 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Alpine A290 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. DC rapid charging on the CCS port uses the charger's own tethered cable, not one you bring. A 5m cable suits most driveways; go for 7m or 10m if there is a longer pull from the socket to your parking spot.
Can the Alpine A290 charge at 22kW?+−
No. The A290's onboard charger tops out at 11kW on three phases. A 22kW supply is beyond its maximum, so you would only ever get 11kW from it. On a typical single-phase home wallbox the car charges at 7.4kW, regardless of the cable's rated capacity.
How long does the Alpine A290 take to charge at home?+−
On a standard 7.4kW home wallbox the 52kWh battery charges from empty in around 7 hours, comfortably within an overnight window. On a three-phase 11kW wallbox that drops to around 5 hours. A 3-pin socket at 2.3kW takes around 22 hours and is best kept as an occasional backup.
Does the Alpine A290 support DC rapid charging?+−
Yes, at up to 100kW on a compatible DC rapid charger. The DC session uses the charger's own tethered CCS cable rather than one you purchase. For everyday home and public AC charging you supply your own Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
