Charge speeds

Across the Alpine range.

Every Alpine here uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the range. AC charging tops out at 11kW across the range. A cable never charges faster than your car's on-board charger or your home supply allows, so on a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4 kW cable gives the full speed available.

Speeds are on-board AC limits. Rapid DC uses the station's own cable.

Charging guide

Charging
your Alpine.

Alpine's electric range currently consists of two models: the A290, a performance hot hatch based on the Renault 5 platform, and the A390, a larger crossover with an 89kWh battery. Both are fully electric and both use a Type 2 inlet, so the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable works across the entire Alpine range for home and public AC charging.

Both the A290 and A390 share an 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger, so the cable decision comes down to your home supply rather than the car itself. Pick your model below for exact charging times and its recommended cable, or read the brand-wide guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a Alpine need?

Both Alpines charge through a Type 2 inlet, so you need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A 5m lead suits most driveways and home wallboxes. Step up to 7m or 10m if you park on the street, have a long run from the wallbox, or share a charger with another vehicle. No Alpine needs a Type 1 cable.

The A290 and A390 both have 11kW three-phase onboard chargers. Almost all UK homes are single-phase, which caps home charging at 7.4kW regardless of the cable. For most owners, a 7.4kW cable delivers the full speed a home supply can provide. A 22kW rated cable only adds value if you have a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC points, where both models will pull their full 11kW.

No Alpine charges at 22kW, so buying a 22kW cable specifically for home use adds no benefit on a standard single-phase supply. A single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable suits both models in the Alpine range for everyday home charging.

Contact us
Do both Alpine models use a Type 2 charging cable?+

Yes. Both the A290 and A390 use a Type 2 inlet and take the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging. Neither Alpine requires a Type 1 cable.

What charging cable does an Alpine A290 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most driveways. The A290 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a standard single-phase home supply it charges at 7.4kW. A 22kW cable only unlocks additional speed on a three-phase supply or at a 22kW public AC charger.

Can an Alpine charge at 22kW AC?+

Neither Alpine charges at 22kW on AC. Both the A290 and A390 top out at 11kW on three phases. On a standard single-phase home supply both charge at 7.4kW, so a 22kW cable provides no benefit at home.

Is the cable the same for the Alpine A290 and A390?+

Yes, both models use a Type 2 inlet and have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, so the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits both. The A390 has a larger 89kWh battery compared to the A290's 52kWh, so it takes longer to charge fully, but the cable itself is identical.

What length cable do I need for my Alpine?+

5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Go for 7m or 10m if you park on the street, have an awkward driveway, or your wallbox is mounted a long way from the car. Buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably rather than carrying unnecessary extra weight.
