Why this fits your A8 TFSIe+

The Audi A8 TFSIe has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.4kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

Which Audi A8 TFSIe versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Audi A8 TFSIe, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Audi A8 TFSIe Quattro 60
  • Audi A8 TFSIe Quattro Sport
  • Audi A8 TFSIe Quattro S Line
  • Audi A8 TFSIe Quattro Sport 60
  • Audi A8 TFSIe Quattro S Line 60
  • Audi A8 TFSIe Quattro Vorsprung 60

Whichever A8 TFSIe trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Audi A8 TFSIe.

The Audi A8 TFSIe (D5 generation) is a full-size luxury saloon plug-in hybrid on sale in the UK since 2020 as the 60 TFSIe. It pairs Audi's flagship saloon body with a 14.1kWh usable battery and a powerful petrol engine, offering electric-only running for urban trips alongside its primary role as a long-distance executive car. The charging inlet is Type 2, so you will need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points.

The A8 TFSIe charges on AC only at up to 7.4kW single-phase; there is no DC rapid charging on this model. Despite the car's size and flagship status, the battery and charger specs are modest, and a standard UK home wallbox delivers exactly what the car can accept.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the A8 TFSIe need?

The A8 TFSIe's onboard charger draws at most 7.4kW on a single phase, which is exactly what a standard UK home wallbox provides. A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the ideal pairing: the battery charges at its maximum rate and there is no need to spend on a higher-rated lead the car cannot benefit from.

Three-phase or 22kW cables would deliver no improvement here. The 7.4kW limit is set by the car's own hardware and no cable specification can change it. When choosing cable length, a 5m lead is suitable for most driveways; a 7m option is handy if your parking arrangement puts a larger gap between the charge point and the car.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 14.1kWh usable battery from empty costs roughly £1 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £3.80 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. Keeping the battery charged regularly for urban and suburban journeys reduces fuel consumption considerably, and the per-charge cost is low enough to make daily top-ups effortless. Always check current tariff rates.

Good
questions.

Contact us
Can the Audi A8 TFSIe charge at 22kW?+

No, the Audi A8 TFSIe has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 7.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Audi A8 TFSIe need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The A8 TFSIe charges at up to 7.4kW single-phase and has no DC rapid charging port. A 7.4kW cable is all that is needed and matches the car's maximum AC charging speed exactly.

Can the Audi A8 TFSIe charge faster than 7.4kW?+

No. The onboard charger is rated at 7.4kW single-phase and nothing exceeds that, regardless of wallbox rating or cable specification. A more powerful charger or a 22kW cable would still only deliver 7.4kW to the battery. The A8 TFSIe has no DC rapid charging option.

How long does the Audi A8 TFSIe take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW wallbox the 14.1kWh usable battery charges from empty in roughly 2 hours. On a standard 3-pin domestic socket at around 2.3kW, expect around 6 hours. For a large executive saloon the short charge time is a genuine convenience, as even a partial charge covers a good stretch of urban mileage.

Is the charging cable for the Audi A8 TFSIe the same as for the A6 and A7 TFSIe?+

Yes. The A6 TFSIe, A7 TFSIe, and A8 TFSIe all share the same charging specification: Type 2 inlet, up to 7.4kW single-phase AC, no DC capability. The same 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable works across all three models, and your preferred length of 5m or 7m is the main variable to consider.
