Why this fits your Q7 e-tron+

The Audi Q7 e-tron has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.2kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Audi Q7 e-tron.

The Audi Q7 e-tron was a large seven-seat diesel plug-in hybrid SUV built on the 4M platform, sold in the UK between 2016 and 2019. It combined a 3.0 TDI diesel engine with a 17.3kWh gross battery, giving electric-only capability for shorter urban stretches while the diesel handled motorway and longer runs. If you own or have recently bought one of these, charging is through a Type 2 inlet.

The cable you carry for home wallboxes and public AC points is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The Q7 e-tron's onboard AC charger was rated at 7.2kW single-phase, which was above the norm for plug-in hybrids of that era. There is no DC rapid charging on this model. Charge sessions are AC only, but the relatively large battery means a full top-up from empty takes around 2.5 hours.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Q7 e-tron need?

The Q7 e-tron's 7.2kW onboard AC charger is close enough to the standard 7.4kW UK wallbox limit that a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the right match. The car draws up to 7.2kW through that connection, and almost all UK home wallboxes are single-phase and capped at 7.4kW anyway. A three-phase cable adds nothing for this model.

A 5m Type 2 to Type 2 lead is the practical everyday choice, easy to keep in the boot and long enough for the great majority of home and public AC charging situations. Because sessions tend to be short given the moderate battery size, a 7m cable is only really needed if your wallbox is positioned well away from your usual parking spot.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 17.3kWh gross battery from empty (allowing for some buffer) costs roughly £1 to £1.50 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, or around £4 to £5 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. The diesel engine handles longer trips, so most owners will use the electric range primarily for commuting and urban driving, where home charging overnight keeps costs very low. Check current tariff rates.

questions.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Audi Q7 e-tron need?+

The Audi Q7 e-tron has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 7.2kW.

Can the Audi Q7 e-tron charge at 22kW?+

No, the Audi Q7 e-tron has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 7.2kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Audi Q7 e-tron need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charging points. The Q7 e-tron uses a Type 2 inlet and has a 7.2kW single-phase onboard AC charger. There is no DC rapid charging port. A standard 7.4kW Type 2 lead is the correct choice; a three-phase or 22kW cable is not needed for this model.

Can the Audi Q7 e-tron charge at 22kW or use rapid DC?+

No to both. The onboard AC charger is limited to 7.2kW on a single phase, so it cannot benefit from higher-rated AC chargers. There is no CCS or CHAdeMO port for DC rapid charging. All charging is done through the Type 2 AC inlet at up to 7.2kW, wherever you plug in.

How long does the Audi Q7 e-tron take to charge at home?+

The 17.3kWh gross battery takes roughly 2.5 hours to fill from empty on a 7.2kW wallbox. A standard 3-pin domestic socket at around 2.3kW would take around 7 to 8 hours but is practical as an occasional backup. Overnight charging covers any daily electric usage with ease.

What length cable do I need for the Audi Q7 e-tron?+

A 5m Type 2 to Type 2 lead suits most home driveways and is manageable on a large SUV. If your wallbox is mounted at some distance from where you typically park, a 7m cable removes any awkward stretch. The Q7 e-tron is a long car so consider which end the inlet sits near when estimating the reach you need.
