Why this fits your Continental GT Speed PHEV+

The Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV.

The Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV is the fourth-generation GT coupe, launched from 2024, pairing a V8 petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid system and a 25.9kWh battery. It charges through a Type 2 inlet for AC, so the cable you supply for home or public AC charging is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. There is no DC rapid charging on this model, so all charging is done through the AC inlet.

The onboard AC charger supports up to 11kW on three phases, which is a meaningful rate for a PHEV battery of this size. At that speed a full charge from empty takes a little over two hours, though the speed you actually see depends entirely on the supply you connect to.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Continental GT Speed PHEV need?

The Continental GT Speed PHEV's onboard charger runs at up to 11kW on three phases. Most UK homes have a single-phase supply, which caps home charging at 7.4kW regardless of the cable rating. For the majority of owners, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable provides the full speed a typical home wallbox can deliver, and there is no practical reason to pay more for a 22kW cable unless your setup is unusual.

If you have a three-phase home supply or you regularly park at 22kW public AC points, a 22kW three-phase cable lets the car pull its full 11kW from those sources. On any single-phase connection, a 22kW-rated cable makes no difference to charge speed at all. Given the smaller battery, a 5m lead is more than adequate for most driveways and car park pillars.

What does it cost to charge?

A 25.9kWh battery costs roughly £2 to top up on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £7 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. As a PHEV used mainly on short runs, keeping the battery charged at home is where the real fuel saving lies. Public AC charging can be significantly dearer, so topping up overnight at home makes the most financial sense. Check current tariffs, as rates vary.

Good
questions.

Contact us
Can the Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, used for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The car has no DC rapid charging capability, so AC is the only method. A 5m cable is sufficient for most situations. The inlet is a standard Type 2 socket compatible with any Type 2 lead.

Can the Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV charge at 11kW?+

Yes, but only on a three-phase supply. The onboard charger is rated at 11kW three-phase. Most UK home wallboxes are single-phase, which limits charging to 7.4kW. You need both a three-phase supply and a three-phase-rated cable to reach the full 11kW figure.

How long does the Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW single-phase home wallbox, a full charge from empty takes around three and a half hours. On an 11kW three-phase supply the same charge completes in just over two hours. On a standard 3-pin socket it would take considerably longer and is not recommended as a regular method.

Does the Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV support DC rapid charging?+

No. The Continental GT Speed PHEV has no DC rapid charging port. All charging is done via the Type 2 AC inlet. This is typical for many PHEVs with smaller batteries, where the AC charge time is short enough that DC is not considered necessary by the manufacturer.
