Charge speeds

Across the Bentley range.

Every Bentley here uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the range. On-board AC charging ranges from about 7.2kW to 11kW depending on the model. A cable never charges faster than your car's on-board charger or your home supply allows, so on a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4 kW cable gives the full speed available.

Speeds are on-board AC limits. Rapid DC uses the station's own cable.

Charging guide

Charging
your Bentley.

Bentley's current electrified range consists entirely of plug-in hybrids: the Bentayga Hybrid, the Continental GT Speed PHEV, and the Flying Spur PHEV. All three use a Type 2 inlet, so they all take a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging. No Bentley in the current line-up needs a Type 1 cable.

AC charging speed differs across the three models: the Bentayga Hybrid charges at up to 7.2kW on a single phase, while the Continental GT Speed PHEV and Flying Spur PHEV both have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. That difference is relevant if you have access to a three-phase supply. Pick your model below for the exact recommendation, or read the guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a Bentley need?

All three Bentley plug-in hybrids use a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. A 5m length suits most driveways and home wallboxes; step up to 7m or 10m if the charge point sits further from the car or you park on the street.

The Continental GT Speed PHEV and Flying Spur PHEV both have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. Most UK homes are single-phase, which limits charging to 7.4kW regardless of the cable. A 7.4kW cable already delivers the full home speed for most owners. A 22kW cable is only worth the extra cost if you have a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC points, where those two models will draw their full 11kW.

The Bentayga Hybrid charges at up to 7.2kW on a single phase, so a standard 7.4kW cable is already a fraction more than it can draw. None of the three Bentley plug-in hybrids has DC rapid charging, so AC is the only charge method. A single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable suits the Bentayga Hybrid fully, and is the right home cable for the Continental GT Speed PHEV and Flying Spur PHEV too.

Do all Bentley plug-in hybrids use a Type 2 charging cable?+

Yes. The Bentayga Hybrid, Continental GT Speed PHEV, and Flying Spur PHEV all use a Type 2 inlet, so they all take a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. No Bentley currently sold in the UK needs a Type 1 cable.

What charging cable does a Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most home setups. The Continental GT Speed PHEV has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a standard single-phase home supply it charges at 7.4kW. A 7.4kW cable gives the full home speed; a 22kW cable only helps on a three-phase supply or 22kW public AC point.

Can a Bentley charge at 22kW on AC?+

No Bentley charges at 22kW on AC. The Continental GT Speed PHEV and Flying Spur PHEV top out at 11kW on a three-phase supply, and the Bentayga Hybrid reaches a maximum of 7.2kW on a single phase. On a standard home wallbox all three charge at 7.4kW or less.

Does the Bentayga Hybrid charge at the same speed as the Flying Spur PHEV?+

No. The Bentayga Hybrid charges at up to 7.2kW on a single phase, while the Flying Spur PHEV and Continental GT Speed PHEV both have an 11kW three-phase charger. In practice, on a typical UK single-phase home supply all three are limited to 7.4kW or below, so the difference matters mainly on a three-phase supply.

What length cable do I need for my Bentley?+

5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Go for 7m or 10m if the charge point is some distance from where you park or you need to reach around the vehicle. Longer cables are heavier to handle and store, so buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably.
