BMW XM
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your XM+−
The BMW XM has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.4kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.
Which BMW XM versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every BMW XM, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- BMW XM 50E
- BMW XM Label
- BMW XM Label Red
- BMW XM Kith Edition
- BMW XM Label Red Edition
Whichever XM trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the BMW XM.
The BMW XM is a high-performance plug-in hybrid SUV, launched in 2022 and BMW M's first dedicated standalone model since the M1. It is available in several variants including the base 50e, the Label, and the flagship Label Red, all sharing the same powertrain setup: a V8 combined with a large electric motor and a 25.7kWh usable battery. Charging at home or at a public AC point is through a Type 2 inlet, using a standard Type 2 to Type 2 cable.
The XM's onboard AC charger runs at 7.4kW single-phase. There is no DC rapid charging on any XM variant, which means AC charging at home or at destination chargers is how you replenish the electric range between journeys. At 7.4kW, the 25.7kWh usable battery takes around three and a half hours to restore from empty.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the XM need?
The XM's 7.4kW single-phase onboard charger sets the charge rate ceiling. No cable, however highly rated, can push more than 7.4kW into this car. A 7.4kW Type 2 cable matches the car's requirement precisely and is the most cost-effective option. A 22kW three-phase cable delivers the same 7.4kW on any single-phase supply and on this single-phase car, so it adds no speed benefit.
Given the XM's dimensions, a 7m or 10m cable is often more practical than a 5m lead. A large SUV parked on a typical driveway may place the charging inlet at some distance from the wall-mounted box, and the extra reach prevents awkward cable angles that stress the connector over repeated daily use.
A 7m or 10m cable is often the better choice for the XM given its size. A 5m cable can feel restrictive depending on how far the wallbox sits from where the car parks.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the full 25.7kWh usable capacity from empty costs roughly £1.93 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £6.90 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p per kWh. For a vehicle in the XM's price bracket, the home charging cost is modest relative to its performance. Always confirm current tariff rates.

BMW XM FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the BMW XM charge at 22kW?+−
No, the BMW XM has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 7.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the BMW XM need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The XM uses a Type 2 inlet and charges at up to 7.4kW single-phase. A 7.4kW cable delivers the full home charging speed. A 22kW three-phase cable charges the XM at exactly the same rate and is not needed.
Does the BMW XM support DC rapid charging?+−
No. Despite being a performance model with a large battery, the XM has no DC rapid charging capability. Charging is AC only at up to 7.4kW through the Type 2 inlet. Rapid CCS chargers cannot be used.
How long does the BMW XM take to charge at home?+−
At 7.4kW on a home wallbox, the 25.7kWh usable battery takes around 3.5 hours from empty. An overnight charge restores full electric range easily. A standard 3-pin socket works as a backup but takes around 11 to 12 hours.
What cable length works best for the BMW XM?+−
A 7m or 10m cable is recommended for most XM owners. The car's large footprint means a 5m lead can feel tight, particularly if the wallbox is mounted a little further from your parking position. Extra length costs nothing in charging speed.
