Why this fits your Atto 2+

The BYD Atto 2 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which BYD Atto 2 versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every BYD Atto 2, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • BYD Atto 2 Boost
  • BYD Atto 2 Active
  • BYD Atto 2 51.1kWh
  • BYD Atto 2 Comfort
  • BYD Atto 2 45.12kWh
  • BYD Atto 2 1 5 Dm I Fwd Boost

Whichever Atto 2 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the BYD Atto 2.

The BYD Atto 2 is a compact electric SUV from BYD that arrived in UK showrooms in 2025. It sits a step below the larger Atto 3 in BYD's range and is built around a 45.1kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate battery, a chemistry chosen for its stability, longevity, and resistance to degradation in cold weather. The car charges via a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for DC rapid sessions. The cable you bring for home or public AC charging is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.

The Atto 2's onboard AC charger accepts up to 11kW across three phases, which is a capable figure for a car in this class. On DC rapid charging it peaks at around 65kW, lower than many contemporaries but enough to keep the 45.1kWh pack topped up sensibly on longer runs. Rapid DC sessions always use the charger's own tethered cable, not one you purchase.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Atto 2 need?

At home on a standard UK single-phase supply, the 7.4kW cap imposed by the supply itself means that a 7.4kW Type 2 cable already delivers everything your wallbox can offer the Atto 2. There is no speed difference between a 7.4kW and a 22kW cable in that scenario: the car draws the same 7.4kW either way. Given that the Atto 2's 45.1kWh pack fills from empty in around six hours at that rate, a 7.4kW cable is both sufficient and the more cost-effective choice for most buyers.

The picture changes if you have a three-phase home supply or you regularly pull into 22kW public AC chargers on your commute or at work. In those settings the Atto 2 can draw up to its full 11kW, and a 22kW rated cable is needed to unlock it. If that describes your routine, the extra outlay is worthwhile. If not, save it.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 45.1kWh battery from empty costs around £3 to £4 on an off-peak EV tariff of roughly 7.5p per kWh, and around £12 at a standard rate of roughly 27p per kWh. Because the pack is relatively small, even standard-rate overnight charging is inexpensive by EV standards. Public rapid sessions are a different story, often 45p to 80p per kWh across the main networks, so day-to-day home charging is the way to keep running costs low. Always check current tariffs, as rates move.

What charging cable does the BYD Atto 2 need?+

The BYD Atto 2 has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the BYD Atto 2 need for home charging?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable connects the Atto 2 to a home wallbox or public AC point. For a standard single-phase home a 7.4kW cable delivers the maximum speed the supply allows. If you have a three-phase supply or use 22kW public AC chargers, a 22kW rated cable lets the Atto 2 reach its full 11kW AC rate.

Can the BYD Atto 2 charge at 22kW?+

No. The Atto 2's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, so 11kW is the ceiling on AC regardless of cable. On a typical UK single-phase home supply that ceiling drops to 7.4kW. A 22kW cable on a single-phase home charges the car at exactly the same 7.4kW as a cheaper 7.4kW cable.

How long does the BYD Atto 2 take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW wallbox the 45.1kWh battery takes around six hours from empty, so an overnight session easily covers a full charge. A three-pin plug charger is much slower at around 18 hours and is best reserved as a backup option rather than a regular habit.

What length cable do I need for the BYD Atto 2?+

A 5m cable covers most home driveways comfortably. If your wallbox sits at the far end of the drive from where you park, or the cable has to arc around the car's body to reach the port, a 7m or 10m lead removes the stretch and avoids unnecessary strain on the connectors.
