Citroen Ami
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your Ami+−
The Citroen Ami has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 3.7kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.
Which Citroen Ami versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Citroen Ami, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Citroen Ami Pop
- Citroen Ami Peps
- Citroen Ami Buggy
- Citroen Ami Tonic
- Citroen Ami My Cargo
Whichever Ami trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Citroen Ami.
The Citroen Ami is a first-generation quadricycle, on sale in the UK since 2020. It is a tiny two-seat city vehicle classified as a heavy quadricycle rather than a car, with a 5.5kWh battery. The Ami charges through a domestic socket by default, with a Type 2 connection available via an adapter rather than a dedicated Type 2 inlet. In practice the real-world AC charge rate is around 1.4kW, limited by the on-board charger. There is no DC rapid charging.
The Ami is designed for urban top-ups over a few hours rather than rapid overnight replenishment. The tiny battery means even at its low charge rate, a full charge from a domestic socket takes around three hours. A Type 2 adapter cable can be used at public AC posts, but the car draws no more power than it does on a domestic socket: the onboard charger is the ceiling, not the supply.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Ami need?
The Ami does not have a conventional Type 2 inlet. It charges via a domestic plug by default, and a Type 2 adapter is available for public charge points. If you want a cable for use at public AC posts, look for a Type 2 adapter cable compatible with the Ami's onboard socket rather than a conventional Type 2 to Type 2 EV lead.
Because the onboard charger draws around 1.4kW in real-world use, the charge rate is the same wherever you plug in: a domestic socket, a home wallbox, or a public AC post all deliver essentially the same speed. Length is less of a concern than with larger EVs, as the Ami is a compact urban vehicle. A shorter cable or a domestic extension arrangement suits most users. Be aware this is not a car suited to long-distance charging stops.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 5.5kWh battery from empty costs under 50p on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £1.50 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. The running cost per charge is minimal. Public charge points are rarely worthwhile unless they are free, given the slow draw rate and low capacity. Check current tariffs for completeness.

Citroen Ami FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the Citroen Ami need?+−
The Citroen Ami has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 3.7kW.
Can the Citroen Ami charge at 22kW?+−
No, the Citroen Ami has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 3.7kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What cable does the Citroen Ami need for charging?+−
The Ami charges via a domestic plug socket by default. A Type 2 adapter cable is available for use at public AC charge posts. It does not have a conventional Type 2 EV inlet, so standard Type 2 to Type 2 EV cables are not the right choice. Check the adapter options specific to the Ami.
How fast does the Citroen Ami charge?+−
The Ami's onboard charger draws around 1.4kW in real-world use. This is the ceiling regardless of the supply connected. A domestic socket, home wallbox, or public AC post all deliver the same rate. There is no DC rapid charging option.
How long does the Citroen Ami take to charge from empty?+−
At around 1.4kW, the 5.5kWh battery charges from empty in approximately three to four hours. Because the battery is so small, even partial top-ups during parking are useful. A full overnight charge is more than enough to replenish it completely.
Can the Citroen Ami charge at a public EV charge point?+−
Yes, with the appropriate adapter cable for the Ami's domestic-style socket. However, the charge rate remains around 1.4kW regardless of the charger's output, as the car's onboard charger is the limiting factor. Public AC charge points offer no speed advantage over a domestic socket for this vehicle.
