Why this fits your Formentor eHybrid+

The Cupra Formentor eHybrid has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 3.6kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Cupra Formentor eHybrid.

The Cupra Formentor eHybrid is a plug-in hybrid SUV coupe that combines a turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and a 10.4kWh usable battery. It has been available in the UK from 2020 and sits in Cupra's performance-oriented range, offering electric-only running for shorter journeys and petrol range for longer ones. The charging inlet is Type 2, the standard connector for European plug-in vehicles.

Charging at home or at a public AC point uses a Type 2 to Type 2 cable that you provide. The Formentor eHybrid's onboard AC charger is rated at 3.6kW single-phase, which is modest even by PHEV standards. There is no DC rapid charging on this model: every charge happens through the onboard AC charger, making charge sessions measured in hours rather than minutes. Later generation models introduced a larger battery, so check your specific version's specification.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Formentor eHybrid need?

Because the Formentor eHybrid's onboard charger is limited to 3.6kW, any cable rated above that delivers no extra speed. A standard 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 5m is perfectly suitable and will simply charge at the car's maximum 3.6kW rate. You do not need a higher-rated cable for this car.

At 3.6kW, filling the usable 10.4kWh battery from empty takes around three hours, which means it fits comfortably into a few hours of parking rather than needing a full overnight session. A 5m cable is the right length for most home driveways and public charge points. If your wallbox is at an awkward distance from where you park, a 7m lead gives a bit more flexibility without unnecessary bulk.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 10.4kWh usable battery from empty costs less than £1 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £2.80 at a standard rate of about 27p per kWh. The small battery makes running costs per charge minimal. Charging regularly to keep the electric range available is cheap regardless of the tariff you are on. Check current rates as these change.

Good

Contact us
Can the Cupra Formentor eHybrid charge at 22kW?+

No, the Cupra Formentor eHybrid has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 3.6kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Cupra Formentor eHybrid need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The onboard AC charger is rated at 3.6kW single-phase, so any cable rated at 3.6kW or above works fine. There is no DC rapid charging on this model. A 5m cable suits most driveways and public charging bays.

Can the Cupra Formentor eHybrid rapid charge?+

No. The Formentor eHybrid has no DC rapid charging capability. All charging goes through the onboard 3.6kW AC charger, whether at a home wallbox or a public charge point. This means charge speeds are always the same 3.6kW regardless of how fast the charger on the other end is.

How long does the Cupra Formentor eHybrid take to charge?+

At 3.6kW, filling the 10.4kWh usable battery from empty takes around three hours. A full overnight charge is more than sufficient. Plugging in for a few hours during a shopping trip or work stop is usually enough to restore most of the electric range. A 3-pin socket is slower and best used only as a backup.

What length cable do I need for the Cupra Formentor eHybrid?+

A 5m Type 2 to Type 2 cable covers most home driveways and standard public parking bays. Given the modest charge time, you are unlikely to need a longer cable just for range reasons. If the wallbox is set back from your usual parking spot, a 7m lead is a sensible choice without overcomplicating things.
