Why this fits your Spring+

The Dacia Spring has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 6.6kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

Which Dacia Spring versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Dacia Spring, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Dacia Spring 45
  • Dacia Spring Cargo
  • Dacia Spring Extreme
  • Dacia Spring 65 Extreme
  • Dacia Spring Expression

Whichever Spring trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Dacia Spring.

The Dacia Spring is a compact budget electric SUV available in the UK from 2021, designed to make EV ownership as affordable as possible. It uses a 27.4kWh battery (around 26.8kWh usable) and a modest electric motor sized for urban and suburban use. The Spring connects via a Type 2 inlet for AC charging and a CCS port for DC rapid charging at up to around 30kW, which is slower than many rivals but sufficient given the small battery.

For home wallboxes and public AC charge points, the cable you use is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. Early Dacia Spring models had a 3.7kW standard onboard AC charger; more recent variants offer an upgraded 6.6kW charger. The faster DC rapid charging uses the charger's own tethered cable, not one you buy, and can fill the small battery relatively quickly.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Spring need?

The Dacia Spring's onboard AC charger tops out at 6.6kW on recent models, with earlier cars limited to 3.7kW. In both cases a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable covers you: it exceeds the car's AC charging ceiling and is compatible with all public Type 2 AC points. There is no benefit whatsoever in buying a 22kW cable for the Spring, as the car can never draw more than 6.6kW on AC.

A 5m cable suits most home driveways and public charge-point bays. The compact 26.8kWh battery fills in roughly 4 to 5 hours at 6.6kW, or under 3 hours if you find a public AC point that matches the car's rate. DC rapid charging tops up the battery much faster at around 30kW, using the charger's own cable, which makes longer trips feasible despite the small pack.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 26.8kWh usable battery from empty costs roughly £2 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £7.25 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. The Spring's compact battery means even standard-rate overnight charging is very cheap. It is one of the most economical EVs to run on a basic tariff, and the savings multiply on a dedicated EV off-peak plan. Always check current tariff rates.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Dacia Spring need?+

The Dacia Spring has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 6.6kW.

Can the Dacia Spring charge at 22kW?+

No, the Dacia Spring has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 6.6kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Dacia Spring need for home charging?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Spring's onboard AC charger is 3.7kW on earlier models and 6.6kW on later ones. A 7.4kW Type 2 cable covers both, is compatible with all public Type 2 AC sockets, and is the only cable you need for AC charging. A 5m length is practical for most home setups.

Can the Dacia Spring use rapid DC chargers?+

Yes, at up to around 30kW via a CCS port. The rapid charger provides its own cable, so you do not need to buy one. For home and public AC charging, a Type 2 to Type 2 cable is what you supply. At 30kW DC the small 26.8kWh battery charges from 20 to 80 percent in around 45 minutes.

How long does the Dacia Spring take to charge at home?+

With the 6.6kW onboard AC charger, the 26.8kWh usable battery fills from empty in roughly 4 to 4.5 hours. With the older 3.7kW charger expect around 7 to 8 hours. On a 3-pin socket at 2.3kW, a full charge takes around 12 hours, which is slow but manageable overnight for a small battery.

Is a 22kW cable worth buying for the Dacia Spring?+

No. The Dacia Spring's onboard AC charger is limited to 6.6kW on the latest models and 3.7kW on older ones. A 22kW cable cannot make the car charge faster than its built-in charger allows. A 7.4kW Type 2 cable is perfectly matched and costs less.
