Denza Z9GT DM
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your Z9GT DM+−
The Denza Z9GT DM has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Charging
the Denza Z9GT DM.
The Denza Z9GT DM is the plug-in hybrid version of BYD's premium estate, on sale in the UK from 2026. It carries a 38.5kWh battery alongside its combustion engine, giving a meaningful electric-only range that can cover most daily commutes without burning fuel. The AC inlet is Type 2, the same connector used on virtually every UK public AC charger and home wallbox, so plugging in is straightforward.
For charging at home or at a public AC point, the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The Z9GT DM's onboard AC charger accepts up to 11kW across three phases. If DC rapid charging is supported on final UK specification, that will use the charger's own tethered cable rather than one you bring yourself.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Z9GT DM need?
The Z9GT DM's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases. In practice, almost all UK homes have a single-phase supply, which means home charging is capped at 7.4kW regardless of cable rating. For the 38.5kWh battery, a 7.4kW wallbox connection replenishes a full charge in around five to six hours, which comfortably fits overnight charging. A 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the sensible starting point for most owners.
A 22kW cable only makes sense if you have a three-phase home supply, which is uncommon in UK residential properties, or if you regularly use 22kW public AC points. When connected to a three-phase 22kW charger, the Z9GT DM can draw up to 11kW. On any single-phase connection the cable rating makes no difference to charge speed, so there is little reason to pay extra for a three-phase cable unless your circumstances call for it.
A 5m cable suits most driveways; choose 7m or 10m if your wallbox is set back or the charging port ends up on the far side of the car from the socket.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the Z9GT DM's 38.5kWh battery from empty costs roughly £3 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £10 on a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. For a PHEV, plugging in nightly keeps running costs low and reduces fuel use significantly on shorter trips. Public rapid charging costs far more per kWh, so home overnight charging is where most of the savings come from. Check current tariff rates, as these change.

Denza Z9GT DM FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Denza Z9GT DM need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. A 7.4kW cable is suitable for most UK owners on a standard single-phase supply. A 22kW three-phase cable is worth considering only if you have a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC chargers, where the car draws up to 11kW.
Can the Denza Z9GT DM charge at 22kW?+−
No. The onboard charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, so AC charging is capped at that figure. A 22kW cable cannot make the car charge faster than 11kW. On a typical UK single-phase home supply it charges at 7.4kW, whatever cable is fitted.
How long does the Denza Z9GT DM take to charge from empty?+−
On a 7.4kW single-phase home wallbox, the 38.5kWh battery takes around five to six hours from empty to full, well within an overnight session. On a three-phase 11kW supply that would drop to under four hours. Most PHEV owners simply plug in each evening and wake to a full battery.
Does the Denza Z9GT DM support DC rapid charging?+−
DC rapid charging capability on the UK specification is to be confirmed. If supported, it would use the tethered cable at the rapid charger, not a cable you buy. Check with your Denza dealer for the confirmed UK specification before purchasing a rapid charging plan.
