Charge speeds

Across the Denza range.

Every Denza here uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the range. AC charging tops out at 11kW across the range. A cable never charges faster than your car's on-board charger or your home supply allows, so on a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4 kW cable gives the full speed available.

Speeds are on-board AC limits. Rapid DC uses the station's own cable.

Charging guide

Charging
your Denza.

Denza is a premium brand from BYD, and its UK range currently covers three models: the D9 plug-in hybrid MPV, the Z9GT fully electric grand tourer, and the Z9GT DM plug-in hybrid. All three use a Type 2 inlet and all three have an 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger, giving the range a consistent charging set-up across every variant.

Because all Denza models share the same connector and the same AC charger rating, the cable choice is straightforward. The main decision is whether the three-phase capability is relevant to your situation at home or at your regular public charging spots. Pick your model below for full charge times and recommendations, or read the guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a Denza need?

Every Denza uses a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. A 5m length suits most home driveways and public charge points. Step up to 7m or 10m if you park on the street or your wallbox is mounted well away from where the car sits. No Denza needs a Type 1 cable.

All three Denza models, the D9, Z9GT, and Z9GT DM, have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. Most UK homes are single-phase, which caps home charging at 7.4kW regardless of the cable you use. On a standard home supply a 7.4kW cable already delivers the full speed your supply can provide. A 22kW rated cable only earns its extra cost if you have a three-phase supply at home or regularly use 22kW public AC points, where these cars will draw up to 11kW.

The D9 and Z9GT DM are plug-in hybrids, so their electric range is supplemented by a combustion engine; the main benefit of faster AC charging is topping up the battery between longer journeys rather than charging from empty. The Z9GT is a fully electric car with a 100.1kWh battery, where a home 7.4kW wallbox will add around 55 miles of range per hour. A single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable covers all three Denza models for everyday home use.

Do all Denzas use a Type 2 charging cable?+

Yes. The D9, Z9GT, and Z9GT DM all use a Type 2 inlet. They all take the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging, and no Denza needs a Type 1 cable. All three also share the same 11kW three-phase AC charging rating.

What charging cable does a Denza Z9GT need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most driveways. The Z9GT has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. On a standard single-phase UK home supply it charges at up to 7.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable delivers the full speed available at home. A 22kW cable only helps if you have a three-phase supply or use 22kW public AC points.

Can a Denza charge at 22kW on AC?+

No Denza charges at 22kW on AC. All three models top out at 11kW on a three-phase supply. On a normal single-phase UK home they charge at up to 7.4kW, so a 22kW cable would never deliver more than 11kW. For most home users a 7.4kW cable is the right choice.

What cable does the Denza D9 plug-in hybrid need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The D9 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger and a 58.5kWh battery in PHEV configuration. At 7.4kW on a single-phase home supply a full charge from low takes around eight hours. Its plug-in hybrid set-up means the combustion engine covers longer distances if the battery runs low.

What length cable do I need for my Denza?+

5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Go for 7m or 10m if you park on the street, share a charger, or your wallbox is mounted away from the car. Longer cables are heavier to coil and cost more, so buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably.
