Why this fits your 7 Crossback E-Tense+

The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 3.7kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense.

The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense is a first-generation plug-in hybrid SUV that DS has been selling in the UK since 2019. It pairs a petrol engine with a 13.2kWh battery, rising to around 14.2kWh on post-facelift models. There is no DC rapid charging on this car: it replenishes through a Type 2 inlet on AC only, so the cable you bring is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.

Standard-specification cars are fitted with a 3.7kW onboard AC charger, though some variants were offered with an upgraded 7.4kW charger as an option. Before choosing a cable, it is worth confirming which charger your specific car has, as that determines the maximum speed you can draw at home or on a public AC point.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the 7 Crossback E-Tense need?

Because the standard DS 7 Crossback E-Tense has a 3.7kW onboard charger, a 7.4kW cable already exceeds what the car can accept: the car will draw 3.7kW regardless of the cable's maximum rating. If your car has the optional 7.4kW charger, the same 7.4kW cable is ideal and delivers the car's full AC rate. In either case, a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the sensible choice.

There is no CCS or rapid DC charging on this model, so the Type 2 AC cable is the only home-charging cable you will need. A 5m lead suits most driveways. The 13.2kWh battery is compact enough that even at 3.7kW a full charge takes only about 3.5 hours, so the slow charger is rarely an inconvenience.

What does it cost to charge?

Topping up the 13.2kWh battery from empty costs roughly £1 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £3.50 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. As a PHEV, the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense is typically charged little and often to keep the battery topped up for local running rather than driven to empty. Check current tariff rates, as they can change.

Good
questions.

Contact us
What charging cable does the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense need?+

The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 3.7kW.

Can the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense charge at 22kW?+

No, the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 3.7kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense need for home charging?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for your home wallbox or a public AC point. The standard car has a 3.7kW onboard charger; some variants have a 7.4kW option. A 7.4kW Type 2 cable works for both, though the standard car will only draw 3.7kW from it. A 5m lead suits most driveways.

Does the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense have DC rapid charging?+

No. The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense is an AC-only PHEV with no CCS or CHAdeMO port. It charges exclusively through its Type 2 inlet. Rapid DC charging is not available on this model, so you will rely on home wallboxes or public AC charge points.

How long does the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense take to charge?+

With a 3.7kW onboard charger the 13.2kWh battery takes roughly 3.5 hours from empty. If your car has the optional 7.4kW charger, that drops to under 2 hours. A standard 3-pin socket at around 2.3kW takes close to 6 hours but is workable overnight as a backup.

Can the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense charge at a public rapid charger?+

No. This model has no DC charging capability. It can only use AC charge points, so at public locations you will need a Type 2 AC socket (slow or fast), not a rapid DC hub. Most public networks have both types, so charging on the go is still practical, just slower.
