Charge speeds
Across the DS range.
Every DS here uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the range. On-board AC charging ranges from about 3.7kW to 11kW depending on the model. A cable never charges faster than your car's on-board charger or your home supply allows, so on a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4 kW cable gives the full speed available.
Speeds are on-board AC limits. Rapid DC uses the station's own cable.

Charging guide
Charging
your DS.
DS Automobiles offers a mix of fully electric models and E-Tense plug-in hybrids across its range. The electric line-up includes the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense, DS 3 E-Tense, No4 E-Tense, No7, and No8, while the PHEV models cover the DS 4 E-Tense, DS 7 E-Tense, DS 9 E-Tense, and the older 7 Crossback E-Tense. Every DS uses a Type 2 inlet, so the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable works across the entire range for home and public AC charging.
What changes between models is how fast each charges on AC. The newer electric No4, No7, and No8 have 11kW three-phase onboard chargers, while the BEV DS 3 models and all E-Tense PHEVs are single-phase and charge more slowly. That speed difference is what determines whether a bigger cable is worth buying. Pick your model below for exact charging times and its recommended cable, or read the brand-wide guidance underneath.
What charging cable does a DS need?
Every DS charges through a Type 2 inlet, so you need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A 5m lead suits most home driveways and wallboxes. Choose 7m or 10m if you park on the street, share a charger, or your wallbox is positioned far from the car. No DS model requires a Type 1 cable.
The DS No4, No7, and No8 have 11kW three-phase onboard chargers. Almost all UK homes are single-phase, which caps home charging at 7.4kW regardless of what cable you use, so for most owners a 7.4kW cable delivers the full home speed available. A 22kW rated cable only earns its cost if you have a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC points, where these models will pull their full 11kW.
The DS 3 Crossback E-Tense and DS 3 E-Tense are single-phase BEVs that charge at 7.4kW, and the E-Tense PHEVs such as the DS 4, DS 7, DS 9, and 7 Crossback E-Tense are limited to around 3.7kW on AC. For all of these a 7.4kW cable is already at or above the car's maximum, so there is no reason to pay for a larger one. A single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable suits the whole DS range.
Do all DS models use a Type 2 charging cable?+−
Yes. Every DS EV and E-Tense plug-in hybrid uses a Type 2 inlet. That means they all take the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging, and no DS model needs a Type 1 cable.
What charging cable does a DS No4, No7, or No8 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most driveways. All three have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a standard single-phase home supply they charge at 7.4kW. A 22kW cable only adds speed on a three-phase supply or at a 22kW public AC point.
Can a DS charge at 22kW AC?+−
No DS charges at 22kW on AC. The No4, No7, and No8 top out at 11kW on three phases, and the E-Tense PHEVs and older DS 3 models are lower still. On a normal single-phase home every DS charges at 7.4kW or less.
What cable does a DS E-Tense plug-in hybrid need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. DS E-Tense PHEVs such as the DS 7 E-Tense and DS 9 E-Tense charge at around 3.7kW on AC, so a standard 7.4kW cable is more than enough. Their smaller batteries also suit a 3-pin granny charger for an overnight top-up.
What length cable do I need for my DS?+−
5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Go for 7m or 10m if you park on the street, have an awkward driveway layout, or your wallbox sits a long way from where the car charges. Buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably.
