DS DS 9 E-Tense
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your DS 9 E-Tense+−
The DS DS 9 E-Tense has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 3.7kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.
Which DS DS 9 E-Tense versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every DS DS 9 E-Tense, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- DS DS 9 E-Tense Opera
- DS DS 9 E-Tense Rivoli Plus
- DS DS 9 E-Tense Performance Line Plus
Whichever DS 9 E-Tense trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the DS DS 9 E-Tense.
The DS 9 E-Tense is a plug-in hybrid saloon positioned at the premium end of the DS range, available in the UK from 2020. Depending on the variant, the battery pack ranges from around 11.9kWh to 15.6kWh, and the car is offered in rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive E-Tense versions. Like all DS PHEVs, it charges via a Type 2 inlet on AC only, with no DC rapid-charging capability.
For home charging and public AC stations, you supply a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Most DS 9 E-Tense models are fitted with a 3.7kW onboard AC charger as standard, with a 7.4kW unit available as an option. Given the battery sizes involved, even the slower charger can fully replenish the pack in a few hours, making the DS 9 well suited to overnight or destination charging.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the DS 9 E-Tense need?
With a standard 3.7kW onboard charger, the DS 9 E-Tense is not limited by the cable's rating but by what the charger can accept. A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable covers both the 3.7kW standard and the 7.4kW optional charger without any waste, and it plugs into every public Type 2 AC socket. There is no reason to spend more on a 22kW cable for this car.
No DC rapid charging is available on the DS 9 E-Tense, so the Type 2 cable is your only charging lead. For public AC top-ups away from home, a 5m cable fits most charge-point bays, and the compact battery makes even a partial hour's charge worthwhile for additional electric range.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the larger 15.6kWh battery from empty costs roughly £1.15 at an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £4.20 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. The smaller 11.9kWh variants cost proportionally less. As a PHEV, the DS 9 E-Tense rewards daily charging: keeping the battery topped up means the engine runs less on everyday journeys. Always check current tariff rates.

DS DS 9 E-Tense FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the DS DS 9 E-Tense need?+−
The DS DS 9 E-Tense has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 3.7kW.
Can the DS DS 9 E-Tense charge at 22kW?+−
No, the DS DS 9 E-Tense has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 3.7kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the DS 9 E-Tense need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Standard models have a 3.7kW onboard charger; the optional 7.4kW charger is available on some variants. A 7.4kW rated cable works with both setups and all public AC charge points. A 5m length is practical for most situations.
Does the DS 9 E-Tense support DC rapid charging?+−
No. The DS 9 E-Tense is an AC-only plug-in hybrid with no CCS or DC charging port. All charging is through the Type 2 AC inlet. At public charge points, look for Type 2 AC sockets rather than rapid DC units.
How long does the DS 9 E-Tense take to charge at home?+−
With the standard 3.7kW charger and the 15.6kWh battery, expect roughly 4 to 4.5 hours from empty. With the optional 7.4kW charger that falls to around 2 to 2.5 hours. On a 3-pin socket at 2.3kW the full charge takes around 7 hours, manageable overnight but slow for daytime use.
Is the DS 9 E-Tense battery size consistent across all variants?+−
No. Earlier and standard variants carry a battery of around 11.9kWh, while the larger-battery version uses 15.6kWh. The charging time and running cost differ accordingly. Check your car's spec sheet or DS documentation to confirm which pack your specific model has before calculating charge times.
