Charging guide

Charging
your Dynamo.

Dynamo makes an electric London-style taxi, the Dynamo Taxi, based on the Nissan e-NV200. Unlike most modern EVs it uses a Type 1 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 1 cable rather than the Type 2 to Type 2 lead most cars use.

The cable's car end must match the Type 1 inlet, while the charger end is Type 2 at every home and public AC point. Pick it below for its exact charging times, or read the guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a Dynamo need?

The Dynamo Taxi has a Type 1 inlet, so you need a Type 2 to Type 1 cable: Type 2 for the charger, Type 1 for the taxi. A 5m length suits most charging spots, with 7m or 10m where the charge point is further away.

The Taxi charges at up to 6.6kW on a single phase, so the cable only ever carries single-phase power. A 7.4kW rated Type 2 to Type 1 cable covers it fully, and there is no faster AC option because Type 1 is single-phase only.

What charging cable does the Dynamo Taxi need?+

A Type 2 to Type 1 cable, because the taxi has a Type 1 inlet. 5m suits most spots. It charges at up to 6.6kW on a single phase, so a 7.4kW cable covers its full AC speed.

Why does the Dynamo Taxi use Type 1?+

It is based on the Nissan e-NV200, an older design that uses the Type 1 connector. Type 1 is single-phase only, so the taxi needs a Type 2 to Type 1 cable rather than the Type 2 to Type 2 lead most new EVs use.

Can the Dynamo Taxi charge at 22kW?+

No. Type 1 is single-phase only and the taxi charges at up to 6.6kW on AC, so a 7.4kW cable is all it can use. Rapid DC charging is separate and uses the charge point's own cable.

Can I use a normal Type 2 cable on a Dynamo Taxi?+

No. A Type 2 to Type 2 cable will not fit the Type 1 inlet. You need a Type 2 to Type 1 cable, which has the Type 1 connector on the car end and a Type 2 connector for the charger.

What length cable do I need for a Dynamo Taxi?+

5m suits most charging spots. Step up to 7m or 10m where the charge point is set back or you park away from it. Buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably.
