Dynamo Taxi
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your Taxi+−
The Dynamo Taxi has a Type 1 inlet and a single-phase 6.6kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Dynamo Taxi.
The Dynamo Taxi is an electric London black cab conversion based on the Nissan e-NV200, produced between 2019 and 2022. It uses a 40kWh battery and is an important exception among EV charging setups: the AC inlet is Type 1, not the Type 2 used on almost every other current electric vehicle. Type 1 is a five-pin connector, once common on earlier Japanese EVs, and finding a cable that bridges it to the Type 2 sockets on UK chargers requires a specific lead.
Because the Dynamo Taxi has a Type 1 AC inlet, the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 1, sometimes called a Type 2 male to Type 1 female lead. One end connects to the wallbox or public AC charger; the other end connects to the car. The taxi's onboard charger is rated at 6.6kW on a single phase, and it also supports DC rapid charging at up to 50kW via CHAdeMO, which uses the charger's own tethered cable.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Taxi need?
The Dynamo Taxi's onboard AC charger tops out at 6.6kW on a single phase. That is below the 7.4kW cap of a standard UK home wallbox, so the car itself is the limiting factor rather than the supply. A Type 2 to Type 1 cable rated at 7.4kW will deliver the taxi's full 6.6kW, and there is no benefit in sourcing a higher-rated cable. The charging speed is dictated by what the car can accept, not the cable.
Confirm that any cable you buy is a Type 2 to Type 1 lead before ordering, as the more common Type 2 to Type 2 cable will not physically connect to the Dynamo Taxi's inlet. A 5m length suits most charging bays and driveways, though a 7m lead gives more flexibility if the charging socket and the front of the cab are on opposite sides of the parking space.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the Dynamo Taxi's 40kWh battery from empty costs roughly £3 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £11 on a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. For a taxi in regular use, overnight charging on a dedicated EV tariff keeps running costs as low as possible. Public rapid charging via CHAdeMO is convenient for topping up mid-shift but costs considerably more per kWh. Check current tariff rates, as these change.

Dynamo Taxi FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the Dynamo Taxi charge at 22kW?+−
No, the Dynamo Taxi has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 6.6kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Dynamo Taxi need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 1 cable. The Dynamo Taxi has a Type 1 AC inlet, unlike most modern EVs which use Type 2. The Type 2 end connects to your wallbox or public AC charger; the Type 1 end connects to the car. Do not order a standard Type 2 to Type 2 lead, as it will not fit.
Can the Dynamo Taxi use standard UK wallboxes?+−
Yes, via a Type 2 to Type 1 cable. UK wallboxes and public AC chargers have a Type 2 socket, so the cable bridges the two connector standards. The taxi's onboard charger accepts up to 6.6kW on a single phase, so that is the maximum AC charging speed whatever supply is available.
How long does the Dynamo Taxi take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW wallbox using a Type 2 to Type 1 cable, the taxi charges at its maximum 6.6kW. That means the 40kWh battery takes around six hours from empty to full. Overnight charging is the most practical approach for regular use, and comfortably covers a full shift's range deficit.
Does the Dynamo Taxi support DC rapid charging?+−
Yes, via a CHAdeMO connector at up to 50kW. CHAdeMO is a separate DC inlet and uses the tethered cable at the rapid charger, not a cable you bring. Note that CHAdeMO infrastructure is less common than CCS in the UK, so plan routes around charger locations if relying on rapid charging during the day.
