Why this fits your EX2+

The Geely EX2 has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 6.6kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Geely EX2.

The Geely EX2 is a compact electric hatchback expected in the UK from 2026, offering two battery options: a 35.4kWh pack with DC charging up to 60kW, and a larger 47.1kWh battery with DC up to 80kW. Both versions use a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 6.6kW onboard AC charger, which is slightly below the 7.4kW that most UK home wallboxes are set up to deliver. For home and public AC charging the cable you supply is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.

The 6.6kW AC charger is an important detail for the EX2. Because it is single-phase and rated below 7.4kW, there is no benefit in choosing a higher-rated cable: the car's own hardware is the limit, not the supply or the cable. DC rapid charging uses the charger's own tethered CCS cable rather than a portable lead, so the cable you buy only applies to AC charging.

Both versions charge at the same 6.6kW AC rate. The smaller battery fills noticeably faster than the 47.1kWh pack. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the EX2 need?

The EX2's onboard AC charger is rated at 6.6kW on a single phase, which means the car will never draw more than 6.6kW from any AC charge point, regardless of whether the supply or cable is rated higher. A standard 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the correct and only sensible choice: it gives the wallbox enough headroom to deliver the car's maximum AC rate, and there is no reason to pay more for a three-phase or higher-rated cable.

At 6.6kW the 47.1kWh battery takes around seven and a half hours from empty, and the 35.4kWh pack around five to five and a half hours. Both fit comfortably into an overnight charge. A 7.4kW (32A single-phase) cable is the practical recommendation, pairing neatly with the EX2's AC charger without unnecessary expense.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 47.1kWh battery from empty costs roughly £3.50 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £12.50 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. The 35.4kWh pack costs proportionally less, around £2.50 off-peak. Given the compact battery sizes, even standard-rate home charging is relatively affordable per charge. Check current tariffs before estimating running costs, as energy prices vary.

Geely EX2 FAQs

Good
questions.

Contact us
Can the Geely EX2 charge at 22kW?+

No, the Geely EX2 has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 6.6kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Geely EX2 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable rated to 7.4kW. The EX2 has a single-phase 6.6kW onboard AC charger, so it will not draw more than 6.6kW from any AC source. A standard 7.4kW cable is the correct match. Three-phase or 22kW cables offer no benefit for this car.

Can the Geely EX2 charge at 7.4kW or 11kW?+

No. The EX2's onboard AC charger is limited to 6.6kW on a single phase. Even connected to a 7.4kW or higher-rated wallbox with a 32A cable, the car will only draw 6.6kW. This is set by the car's hardware, not the supply.

How long does the Geely EX2 take to charge at home?+

At the car's maximum 6.6kW AC rate, the 47.1kWh battery takes around seven to eight hours from empty. The 35.4kWh variant takes around five to five and a half hours. A standard overnight charge covers either version comfortably. DC rapid charging is faster but requires the charge point's own tethered cable.

What length cable do I need for the Geely EX2?+

A 5m cable suits most home driveways. If the wallbox is positioned at a distance from where you usually park, or the socket placement varies between different public charge points, a 7m cable gives extra reach without being unwieldy.
