Charge speeds

Across the Geely range.

Every Geely here uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the range. On-board AC charging ranges from about 6.6kW to 11kW depending on the model. A cable never charges faster than your car's on-board charger or your home supply allows, so on a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4 kW cable gives the full speed available.

Speeds are on-board AC limits. Rapid DC uses the station's own cable.

Charging guide

Charging
your Geely.

Geely currently offers three electrified models in the UK: the EX2 and EX5 fully electric crossovers, and the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid. All three use a Type 2 inlet, so they take a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging. No Geely needs a Type 1 cable.

AC charging speeds differ across the range. The EX5 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, while the EX2 and Starray EM-i are single-phase models. That distinction determines whether a higher-rated cable adds any real value for your car. Pick your model below for its exact charge times and recommended cable, or read the brand-wide guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a Geely need?

Every Geely EV and PHEV uses a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. A 5m length covers most home driveways and public charge points. Go up to 7m or 10m if you park on the street or your wallbox is some distance from the car.

The Geely EX5 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. On a standard single-phase UK home supply it charges at 7.4kW, which is the limit of a single-phase circuit regardless of the cable rating. A 22kW cable only adds benefit if you have a three-phase supply at home or regularly use 22kW public AC charge points, where the EX5 will draw its full 11kW.

The EX2 charges at 6.6kW single-phase, and the Starray EM-i PHEV also charges at 6.6kW single-phase on AC. For both of these a 7.4kW cable is already above the car's onboard charger limit, so there is no reason to pay for a larger one. A single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable suits every Geely in the range.

Contact us
Do all Geely models use a Type 2 charging cable?+

Yes. The Geely EX2, EX5 and Starray EM-i all use a Type 2 inlet, so they all take a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for AC charging. No Geely sold in the UK needs a Type 1 cable.

What charging cable does a Geely EX5 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most driveways. The EX5 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a typical single-phase UK home supply it charges at 7.4kW. A 7.4kW cable is all you need at home. Only consider a 22kW cable if you have a three-phase supply or use 22kW public AC points regularly.

Can a Geely EX5 charge at 22kW?+

No. The EX5 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, so the maximum it can ever draw on AC is 11kW, and only on a three-phase supply. On a standard single-phase UK home it charges at 7.4kW. A 22kW cable will not deliver more than 11kW to this car.

What cable does the Geely Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Starray EM-i is a PHEV that charges at 6.6kW on AC with a modest 18.4kWh battery. A 7.4kW cable is already above the car's charging rate, so no larger cable is needed. Its small battery means it can also charge overnight from a standard 3-pin socket if required.

What length cable do I need for my Geely?+

5m suits most home driveways and public chargers. Choose 7m or 10m if you park on the street or need extra reach at a shared charger. Longer cables are heavier and cost more, so only buy the extra length if you genuinely need it.
