Geely EX5
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your EX5+−
The Geely EX5 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Geely EX5.
The Geely EX5 is a compact electric SUV arriving in the UK from 2025, built around a 60.22kWh LFP battery. LFP chemistry brings particular advantages: a flatter discharge curve, longer cycle life, and the ability to charge regularly to 100 percent without the degradation concerns associated with older battery types. The EX5 uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging, so home wallbox and public AC charging requires a Type 2 to Type 2 cable.
The onboard AC charger handles up to 11kW on three phases, and DC rapid charging reaches around 100kW via the charger's tethered CCS cable. The 11kW figure is the one to focus on when choosing a cable, since it determines how much of the charge point's capacity the EX5 can actually use.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the EX5 need?
The Geely EX5 needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for wallbox and public AC charging. Its onboard charger goes up to 11kW on three phases, but most UK home supplies are single-phase, capping AC charging at 7.4kW regardless of the cable's rating. At 7.4kW the 60.22kWh battery takes around eight and a half hours from empty, which sits well within an overnight charge. A 7.4kW cable is the right choice for a single-phase home setup.
The EX5's 11kW capability becomes useful when charging on a three-phase supply, whether at a compatible workplace charger or a public 11kW or 22kW AC hub. In those settings a three-phase cable allows the car to charge at its full 11kW, cutting the time to around five and a half hours. If three-phase AC charging is part of your regular routine, a three-phase cable is a worthwhile upgrade over the 7.4kW version.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 60.22kWh battery from empty costs roughly £4.50 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £16 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. LFP chemistry means regular 100 percent charges are fine, so you can conveniently top up to full each night without concern. Public rapid charging is considerably more expensive per kWh. Check current tariff rates before calculating running costs.

Geely EX5 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the Geely EX5 charge at 22kW?+−
Yes, the Geely EX5 has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Geely EX5 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The EX5 has a Type 2 AC inlet and an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. For most owners on a single-phase home supply a 7.4kW cable gives the full available speed. On a three-phase supply a higher-rated cable lets the car reach its 11kW maximum.
How long does the Geely EX5 take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW single-phase wallbox the 60.22kWh battery takes around eight to nine hours from empty. On a three-phase 11kW supply that drops to around five and a half hours. Both suit an overnight charge, and the LFP battery can be regularly charged to 100 percent without concern.
Can the Geely EX5 charge at 11kW or 22kW?+−
It can charge at 11kW, but only on a three-phase supply and a compatible charge point. The onboard charger is rated to 11kW on three phases. It cannot charge faster than 11kW on AC, so a 22kW cable offers no benefit over a well-matched three-phase cable. On a single-phase home supply the maximum is 7.4kW.
What cable length do I need for the Geely EX5?+−
A 5m cable handles most home driveways. If the wallbox is further from your parking position, or you use a mix of home and public AC charging where socket placement varies, a 7m cable adds flexibility without becoming inconvenient to carry and store.
