Geely Starray EM-i
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your Starray EM-i+−
The Geely Starray EM-i has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 6.6kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Geely Starray EM-i.
The Geely Starray EM-i is a plug-in hybrid crossover arriving in the UK from 2025, using Geely's EM-i super hybrid system. It carries an 18.4kWh LFP battery that delivers around 51 miles of pure electric range, after which the petrol engine takes over. For top-ups at home or public AC points the Starray uses a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
The onboard AC charger is rated at 6.6kW on a single phase, which is modest but appropriate for a plug-in hybrid battery of this size. DC rapid charging at up to around 30kW is available via a tethered CCS cable at compatible charge points, reaching 30 to 80 percent in roughly 20 minutes. For most PHEV owners, regular home overnight charging or workplace top-ups using the AC cable will cover most needs.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Starray EM-i need?
The Starray EM-i's onboard AC charger is rated at 6.6kW on a single phase. This is the ceiling for AC charging, regardless of whether you use a 7.4kW or higher-rated cable. A standard Type 2 to Type 2 cable rated to 7.4kW is the sensible and correct choice: it gives enough headroom for the car's charger to operate at its maximum without spending more on a three-phase cable that cannot help a single-phase charger.
At 6.6kW the 18.4kWh battery takes around three hours to charge from empty. In practice most PHEV owners do partial top-ups, and even a one-hour plug-in adds meaningful electric miles. Three-phase or 22kW cables are unnecessary for the Starray: the car's hardware only accepts single-phase AC and will not draw more than 6.6kW from any AC source.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 18.4kWh battery from empty costs roughly £1.40 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £5 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. As a PHEV the Starray's running costs depend heavily on how often the battery is charged versus how much petrol is used. Owners who charge every night and stay within daily electric range will see the biggest savings. Check current energy tariffs, as rates change.

Geely Starray EM-i FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the Geely Starray EM-i charge at 22kW?+−
No, the Geely Starray EM-i has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 6.6kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Geely Starray EM-i need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable rated to 7.4kW. The Starray EM-i has a single-phase 6.6kW onboard AC charger, so it will not charge faster than 6.6kW on AC regardless of cable or charge point rating. Three-phase or 22kW cables offer no benefit.
How long does the Geely Starray EM-i take to charge?+−
The 18.4kWh battery charges from empty in around three hours on a 6.6kW AC supply. Top-ups take proportionally less time. DC rapid charging at up to around 30kW (0 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes) is faster, but requires the charge point's own tethered cable rather than one you supply.
Can the Geely Starray EM-i charge at 7.4kW or 11kW?+−
No. The onboard AC charger is limited to 6.6kW on a single phase. A 7.4kW wallbox or cable will not increase the charge rate above 6.6kW; the limit is set by the car's hardware. Eleven-kilowatt or 22kW charging is not supported on AC.
What cable length suits the Geely Starray EM-i?+−
A 5m cable is sufficient for most home driveways. As a PHEV the Starray may sometimes be parked further from the wallbox than a dedicated EV, particularly if the driveway is shared. A 7m lead is worth considering if the parking position varies or the wallbox is not directly adjacent to where you park.
