Why this fits your Electrified GV80+

The Genesis Electrified GV80 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Genesis Electrified GV80.

The Genesis Electrified GV80 is a large luxury electric SUV, the first-generation model entering the UK market from 2024. It is built on Hyundai Group's 800-volt E-GMP platform, sharing its electrical architecture with the Ioniq 6 and Kia EV6. The 87.2kWh battery supports DC rapid charging up to an estimated 240kW peak via the charger's tethered CCS cable, with the 800-volt architecture enabling very fast DC sessions when a compatible ultra-rapid charger is available. For AC charging at home or public wallboxes, the Electrified GV80 uses a Type 2 inlet and requires a Type 2 to Type 2 cable.

The onboard AC charger handles 11kW on three phases. This is the practical ceiling for any home or public AC charge, and choosing the right cable comes down to whether your supply is single-phase or three-phase. DC ultra-rapid charging is handled entirely by the charge point's tethered hardware.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Electrified GV80 need?

The Electrified GV80's onboard AC charger supports up to 11kW on three phases. Most UK homes have a single-phase supply, which means home charging is limited to 7.4kW no matter the cable rating. At 7.4kW the 87.2kWh battery takes around twelve hours from empty, which covers an overnight charge, though only just for some owners who return home with a very low battery. A 7.4kW cable is the right choice for a standard home wallbox.

Owners with access to a three-phase supply, whether at home or at a compatible workplace or public AC hub, should choose a three-phase cable. At 11kW the charge time comes down to around eight hours, which is more comfortable for a battery of this size. Given the premium nature of the car and the large battery, a three-phase cable is a worthwhile investment for any owner who regularly has access to three-phase AC charging.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 87.2kWh battery from empty costs roughly £6.50 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £23.50 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. As a large luxury SUV it is worth comparing these figures with the fuel costs of a comparable combustion engine car to appreciate the running cost advantage. Public ultra-rapid charging is considerably more expensive per kWh, though the 800-volt architecture means DC sessions are short. Check current energy tariffs, as rates change regularly.

Good

Contact us
What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Genesis Electrified GV80 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Electrified GV80 has a Type 2 AC inlet and an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. For home charging on a single-phase supply a 7.4kW cable provides the maximum speed available. On a three-phase supply a higher-rated cable allows the car to charge at 11kW.

Can the Genesis Electrified GV80 charge at 22kW?+

No. The onboard AC charger is rated to 11kW on three phases. A 22kW cable or charge point cannot make the car charge faster than 11kW. On a standard single-phase home supply the limit is 7.4kW regardless of cable or wallbox rating.

How long does the Genesis Electrified GV80 take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW single-phase wallbox the 87.2kWh battery takes around twelve hours from empty. On a three-phase 11kW supply that reduces to around eight hours. DC ultra-rapid charging at up to an estimated 240kW is dramatically faster but uses the charge point's own tethered cable.

What cable length do I need for the Genesis Electrified GV80?+

A 5m cable works for most driveways where the wallbox is close to the parking spot. A large SUV can be harder to position precisely, so a 7m or 10m lead is worth considering if the wallbox is set back, at the end of a garage, or if you park in a space where the cable may need to reach across the vehicle.
