Why this fits your Ora 03+

The GWM Ora 03 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which GWM Ora 03 versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every GWM Ora 03, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • GWM Ora 03 GT
  • GWM Ora 03 Pro
  • GWM Ora 03 Pure
  • GWM Ora 03 Pro Plus
  • GWM Ora 03 Pure Plus

Whichever Ora 03 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the GWM Ora 03.

The GWM Ora 03, sold in earlier guise as the Ora Funky Cat, is a compact retro-styled electric hatchback on sale in the UK from 2022. It comes in two battery configurations: the entry Pure trim uses a 48kWh pack with up to 64kW DC charging, while the Pro and GT trims step up to a 63kWh battery with DC up to 67kW. Both versions share the same 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger and a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you provide is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead for home and public AC charging.

The Ora 03's retro looks come with a practical charging setup that is straightforward to live with. The AC rate of 11kW is the ceiling for any home or public AC charge, and DC rapid charging uses the charger's tethered CCS cable rather than one you buy. Picking the right portable cable is mostly a question of what your home supply can deliver.

The Pure's smaller battery charges faster at the same AC rate. Pro and GT get a larger pack but similar DC speed. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Ora 03 need?

Both versions of the Ora 03 need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for wallbox and public AC charging. The onboard charger supports up to 11kW on three phases, but most UK homes run a single-phase supply, which caps AC charging at 7.4kW regardless of what cable you use. At 7.4kW the 48kWh Pure takes around six and a half hours from empty; the 63kWh Pro and GT take around eight and a half hours. Both fit an overnight charge without any issue, and a 7.4kW cable is the right match for a single-phase home.

To use the full 11kW rate, you need both a three-phase supply and a charge point that supports it. That combination is uncommon at home but available at some workplaces and public AC hubs. If you regularly charge at such points, a three-phase cable lets the Ora 03 reach its maximum AC speed. For a standard home wallbox setup the cheaper 7.4kW cable does everything required and charges the car as fast as the supply allows.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 48kWh battery from empty costs roughly £3.50 on an off-peak tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £13 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. The 63kWh pack costs roughly £4.50 off-peak and around £17 at standard rates. Daily top-ups in a regular commute will cost considerably less. Public rapid charging is far more expensive per kWh, so overnight home charging is the most economical approach. Check current tariffs, as rates change.

Good

Contact us
What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the GWM Ora 03 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Both the 48kWh and 63kWh versions use a Type 2 AC inlet with an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. For home charging on a single-phase supply a 7.4kW cable gives the full available speed. On a three-phase supply a higher-rated cable lets the car reach its 11kW maximum.

Can the GWM Ora 03 charge at 22kW?+

No. The onboard AC charger tops out at 11kW on three phases, so a 22kW cable will not make it charge faster than 11kW. On a standard single-phase home supply the limit is 7.4kW whatever cable is connected. There is no benefit to a 22kW cable for this car.

How long does the GWM Ora 03 take to charge at home?+

On a typical 7.4kW home wallbox the 48kWh Pure takes around six to seven hours from empty, and the 63kWh Pro or GT takes around eight to nine hours. Both charge well within an overnight window. A 3-pin granny cable is much slower and is best kept as a backup rather than a regular charging method.

What cable length suits the GWM Ora 03?+

A 5m cable covers the majority of home driveways. Opt for 7m if the wallbox is positioned awkwardly relative to where you park, or if you want extra reach for occasional use at public AC points where socket placement varies.
