Charging guide
Charging
your Harley-Davidson.
Harley-Davidson's sole electric model in the UK is the LiveWire electric motorcycle. Like the vast majority of EVs sold here, the LiveWire uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging, which means it connects to any standard UK home wallbox or public Type 2 AC charge point with a Type 2 to Type 2 cable.
The LiveWire has a small 15.5kWh battery and a very modest onboard AC charger rated at just 1.4kW. That is the lowest AC charging rate of any electric vehicle on this site, so the cable rating matters far less than it does for cars. Any standard Type 2 to Type 2 cable is well above what the LiveWire can draw. Pick the model below for its exact charging times and recommended cable, or read the guidance underneath.
What charging cable does a Harley-Davidson need?
The LiveWire uses a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. A 5m length suits most garage wallboxes and public charge points; a shorter cable is perfectly fine too given how little power the bike draws.
The LiveWire's onboard AC charger is rated at just 1.4kW. That is a tiny fraction of the 7.4kW cap of a standard UK single-phase supply, so even the most basic 7.4kW Type 2 cable is many times more capable than the bike requires. There is absolutely no reason to consider a 22kW cable for the LiveWire.
At 1.4kW on AC, the LiveWire will charge its 15.5kWh battery at around 11 hours from empty. For daily top-ups it is easily managed overnight on a wallbox or even a standard 3-pin household socket using a granny charger. A single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the right choice for the LiveWire.

Contact usWhat type of charging cable does the Harley-Davidson LiveWire use?+−
The LiveWire uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging, the same standard found on UK home wallboxes and public AC charge points. You need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. No Type 1 cable is needed.
What is the AC charging speed of the Harley-Davidson LiveWire?+−
The LiveWire charges at just 1.4kW on AC, which is the lowest AC charging rate of any EV in this range. Any Type 2 to Type 2 cable rated at 7.4kW or above is far more than the bike's onboard charger can use.
Do I need a 22kW cable for the Harley-Davidson LiveWire?+−
No. The LiveWire's AC onboard charger tops out at 1.4kW, so a 22kW cable delivers no benefit at all. A standard 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is already many times the bike's AC capacity and is the right choice.
How long does the Harley-Davidson LiveWire take to charge?+−
At 1.4kW on AC, a full charge from empty takes around 11 hours. For daily top-ups from a partial charge, overnight charging on a home wallbox is more than adequate. DC fast charging is quicker (up to 25kW), but that requires a CCS-compatible charge point, not an AC cable.
What length charging cable do I need for the LiveWire?+−
5m suits most garage wallboxes and public charge points. A shorter cable is also practical for a motorcycle given the modest power draw. Choose the shortest length that comfortably reaches your charging socket without straining the connectors.
