Harley-Davidson LiveWire
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your LiveWire+−
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 1.4kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Harley-Davidson LiveWire.
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire is an electric motorcycle produced between 2019 and 2021, later rebranded under the LiveWire One name. It is notable as one of the first mass-market electric motorcycles from a major manufacturer, using a 15.5kWh battery and a CCS2 combined inlet that handles both AC and DC charging. For AC charging at home the LiveWire uses a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, but the AC capability is severely limited compared with a car: the onboard AC charger is restricted to around 1.4kW, similar to a standard 13A household socket.
DC rapid charging via CCS reaches around 25kW, using the charge point's own tethered cable, and is by far the faster method. The AC restriction is not a cable problem: it is set by the bike's onboard hardware and cannot be changed by using a different cable or a faster wallbox. A Type 2 cable connected to any wallbox will only deliver around 1.4kW to the LiveWire.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the LiveWire need?
The LiveWire needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable to connect to any AC charge point or home wallbox, but the bike's onboard charger is limited to around 1.4kW regardless of what the wallbox or cable can supply. At that rate a full charge from empty takes around eleven hours, similar to plugging into a standard domestic socket via a granny cable. The Type 2 cable is still useful because it lets you use public AC charge points (many of which no longer have 3-pin sockets), but the speed will be the same slow 1.4kW wherever you plug in.
For meaningful charging speed the LiveWire depends on DC rapid charging at CCS charge points, where it can reach around 25kW and add substantial range in a much shorter time. That uses the charge point's own tethered cable. When buying a Type 2 cable for the LiveWire, a 7.4kW cable is the sensible choice: it is compatible and correctly sized for any standard wallbox, even though the bike will only draw 1.4kW through it.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 15.5kWh battery from empty costs roughly £1.15 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £4 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. Per-charge costs are low given the small battery, though the very slow AC charge rate means the total time to fill from a wallbox is long. DC rapid charging at a compatible CCS point is far quicker and still represents good value compared with petrol costs. Check current tariff rates.

Good
questions.

Contact usCan the Harley-Davidson LiveWire charge at 22kW?+−
No, the Harley-Davidson LiveWire has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 1.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Harley-Davidson LiveWire need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for AC charging at home wallboxes and public AC charge points. However, the LiveWire's onboard AC charger is limited to around 1.4kW regardless of the cable or supply used. Faster charging at around 25kW is available via DC CCS, which uses the charge point's own tethered cable.
Why does the Harley-Davidson LiveWire charge so slowly on AC?+−
The LiveWire's onboard AC charger is rated at around 1.4kW, which is close to the output of a standard 3-pin socket. This is a hardware limitation of the bike itself, not the cable or wallbox. No cable or charge point can make the LiveWire charge faster than 1.4kW on AC. DC rapid charging at CCS charge points is the only way to charge quickly.
How long does the Harley-Davidson LiveWire take to charge?+−
On any AC supply the 15.5kWh battery takes around eleven hours from empty at the bike's 1.4kW AC rate. On a DC CCS rapid charger at around 25kW a charge from near-empty to 80 percent takes around thirty minutes. DC charging is strongly recommended when a fast top-up is needed.
What cable length do I need for the Harley-Davidson LiveWire?+−
A 5m cable is more than adequate for a motorcycle. The compact dimensions of the bike mean it can park close to a wallbox without difficulty. A shorter 3m cable is also practical if you want something easier to carry on the bike or store in a small space.
