Why this fits your CR-V PHEV+

The Honda CR-V PHEV has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 6.8kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Honda CR-V PHEV.

The Honda CR-V e:PHEV is a family SUV combining a petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid system. On sale in the UK from 2023, it uses a 17.7kWh battery to give meaningful electric-only range before the petrol engine takes over on longer runs. Charging is through a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you bring to a wallbox or public AC point is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.

There is no DC rapid charging on the CR-V e:PHEV. The onboard AC charger accepts up to around 6.8kW on a single-phase supply, which is slightly below the 7.4kW ceiling of a standard UK home wallbox. That means a 7.4kW cable will deliver everything this car can draw at home, making the charging setup straightforward.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the CR-V PHEV need?

Because the CR-V e:PHEV's onboard charger tops out at around 6.8kW, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable is already delivering the full speed the car can use. There is no benefit in choosing a higher-rated cable: the car will never draw more than its onboard charger allows, whatever the cable rating.

A 5m cable suits most home driveways and destination chargers. If your wallbox is positioned away from where you typically park, a 7m or 10m lead gives more flexibility without any performance compromise. Stick with a quality 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable and you have everything this PHEV needs.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 17.7kWh battery from empty costs roughly £1.35 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £4.80 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. Even at standard rates, a full charge is very cheap compared to the cost of petrol for the same miles. Check current tariffs, as rates vary.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Honda CR-V PHEV need?+

The Honda CR-V PHEV has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 6.8kW.

Can the Honda CR-V PHEV charge at 22kW?+

No, the Honda CR-V PHEV has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 6.8kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Honda CR-V e:PHEV need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The CR-V e:PHEV's onboard charger accepts up to around 6.8kW on a single-phase supply, so a 7.4kW cable is the right choice. There is no DC rapid charging on this model, so no CCS cable is needed.

Can the Honda CR-V e:PHEV use rapid charging?+

No. The CR-V e:PHEV has no DC rapid charging capability. It charges only through its Type 2 AC inlet at up to around 6.8kW. For longer journeys the petrol engine covers the distance, so rapid charging is not part of this car's design.

How long does the Honda CR-V e:PHEV take to charge at home?+

On a 7kW home wallbox, the 17.7kWh battery takes around two and a half to three hours from empty to full. On a standard 3-pin socket the same charge takes around six to seven hours. A wallbox is the convenient choice for overnight or daytime top-ups.

What length charging cable do I need for the Honda CR-V e:PHEV?+

A 5m cable covers most home driveways and public car park chargers comfortably. If your wallbox is set back or you need to reach around the car from an awkward angle, a 7m or 10m lead is worth considering. The cable rating makes no difference to charging speed on this car.
