Jaecoo E5
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your E5+−
The Jaecoo E5 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Charging
the Jaecoo E5.
The Jaecoo E5 is a fully electric compact SUV from the Chery-backed Jaecoo brand, on sale in the UK from 2025. Sometimes referred to as the Jaecoo 5 EV, it carries a 61.1kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging alongside a CCS port for DC rapid sessions. AC top-ups use the lead you bring; DC rapid charging uses the charger's own tethered cable.
Plugging in at home or at a public AC post means using a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The E5's onboard AC charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases, and its DC peak sits at 80kW. The LFP chemistry in the battery is well suited to regular charging to 100%, as it is less sensitive to frequent full charges than nickel-based chemistries.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the E5 need?
The Jaecoo E5 can accept up to 11kW AC on a three-phase supply, but the large majority of UK homes deliver single-phase electricity, which caps home AC charging at 7.4kW. For most E5 owners, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable provides the complete home charging speed and is the sensible, cost-effective choice.
A 22kW cable only adds genuine value if you access three-phase public AC chargers regularly or your property has a three-phase supply. On those points the E5 will draw its full 11kW. On a standard domestic single-phase wallbox the charging speed stays at 7.4kW whichever cable you use, so the 22kW lead buys headroom for public charging rather than any improvement at home.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the 61.1kWh battery from empty costs roughly £4.50 to £5 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £16 to £17 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. LFP batteries are typically charged to 100% without concern, so the E5 can start each day with a genuinely full pack. Overnight home charging on a time-of-use tariff is the most cost-effective routine. Check current energy rates before building your own estimate.

Jaecoo E5 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the Jaecoo E5 need?+−
The Jaecoo E5 has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What cable does the Jaecoo E5 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. The E5 charges at up to 11kW on three phases. For a typical UK single-phase home supply, a 7.4kW cable delivers the maximum available speed. A 22kW cable is worth considering if you regularly use three-phase public AC chargers.
Can the Jaecoo E5 charge at 22kW?+−
No. Its onboard AC charger tops out at 11kW on three phases. A 22kW supply will not charge the E5 faster than 11kW, and on a standard single-phase home supply the rate is 7.4kW regardless of cable rating.
How long does the Jaecoo E5 take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW home wallbox, the 61.1kWh battery takes around 8 to 9 hours from empty, covering a full overnight charge easily. At the car's full 11kW on three phases the time drops to roughly 5.5 to 6 hours. DC rapid charging at up to 80kW takes the battery from 30% to 80% in around 27 minutes.
What length cable do I need for the Jaecoo E5?+−
A 5m cable suits the majority of driveways. If your wallbox is mounted further back from where you park, or the charging port ends up on the far side of the car, a 7m lead gives useful extra reach without being cumbersome.
