Why this fits your Recon+

The Jeep Recon has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Jeep Recon.

The Jeep Recon is a fully electric off-road SUV that takes the brand's 4x4 heritage into battery-electric territory, planned for the UK from late 2026. It carries around 96kWh of usable battery capacity from a 100.5kWh nominal pack and supports DC rapid charging at up to around 250kW alongside conventional AC top-ups. Both charging types use a Type 2 inlet; DC rapid sessions use the charger's own tethered cable rather than one you bring.

The cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The Recon is expected to have an 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger, in line with its modern platform.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Recon need?

The Recon's onboard AC charger is expected to accept up to 11kW on three phases. Most UK homes have a single-phase electricity supply, which limits AC charging to 7.4kW regardless of what the cable is rated at. A 7.4kW Type 2 cable delivers the full home charging rate on a standard domestic wallbox, and that is the practical choice for the majority of owners.

A 22kW cable becomes relevant if you have a three-phase supply at home or regularly stop at 22kW public AC chargers. On those installations the Recon will draw its full 11kW. On a single-phase setup, the two cables deliver identical speeds. Given the 96kWh battery, even at 7.4kW overnight charging comfortably covers most daily needs.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 96kWh usable battery from empty costs roughly £7 to £7.50 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £26 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. For a large off-road-capable SUV, overnight home charging on a time-of-use tariff is the most practical routine. DC rapid charging at up to 250kW suits longer trips where speed matters, but public rapid costs are considerably higher per kWh than home rates. Check current tariffs, as they change frequently.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Jeep Recon need?+

The Jeep Recon has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Jeep Recon need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The Recon is expected to charge at up to 11kW on three phases. For a standard UK single-phase home supply, a 7.4kW cable delivers the full available speed. A 22kW cable adds benefit only if you use three-phase public AC chargers or have a three-phase home supply.

Can the Jeep Recon charge at 22kW?+

Based on current estimates, the Recon's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, not 22kW. A 22kW cable will not increase the charge rate beyond 11kW, and on a typical UK single-phase home supply the rate is 7.4kW regardless of cable rating.

How long does the Jeep Recon take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox the 96kWh usable battery takes around 13 hours from empty, which suits an overnight charge. At 11kW on a three-phase supply the time drops to roughly 9 hours. DC rapid charging at up to 250kW significantly shortens journey stops at fast public chargers.

What length cable should I buy for the Jeep Recon?+

A 5m cable covers most driveways. Given the Recon's larger SUV footprint, a 7m or 10m lead may be worth considering if your wallbox is set further back from where you park, or if the charging port ends up on the far side of the car from the socket.
