Why this fits your Renegade 4xe+

The Jeep Renegade 4xe has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.4kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Jeep Renegade 4xe.

The Jeep Renegade 4xe is a compact plug-in hybrid SUV, sold in the UK from 2020 in first-generation form. It shares its 11.4kWh battery and plug-in powertrain with the larger Compass 4xe, pairing a 1.3 petrol engine with an electric rear axle to deliver all-wheel drive without a mechanical prop shaft. Charging goes through a Type 2 inlet for AC; there is no DC rapid charging on this model.

The lead you bring for home and public AC charging is a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Renegade 4xe onboard AC charger accepts up to 7.4kW on a single phase, which sets the ceiling for every AC charging session regardless of where you plug in.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Renegade 4xe need?

The Renegade 4xe onboard charger runs at up to 7.4kW on a single phase, meaning a 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the natural fit for home and public AC charging. There is nothing to gain from a 22kW cable: the car's onboard charger cannot draw more than 7.4kW, and the Renegade 4xe has no DC rapid charging port at all.

The 11.4kWh battery fills in under two hours on a 7.4kW wallbox and overnight on a standard 3-pin socket. A 5m Type 2 to Type 2 cable covers every charging situation this car will face. Longer cables (7m or 10m) are available if your wallbox is positioned further from where you park.

What does it cost to charge?

Topping up the 11.4kWh battery from empty costs under £1 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and roughly £3 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p per kWh. The small battery makes daily plug-in charging very affordable at any tariff. Charging regularly from a wallbox, even at standard rate, keeps per-charge costs low. Check current rates before estimating your own running costs.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Jeep Renegade 4xe need?+

The Jeep Renegade 4xe has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 7.4kW.

Can the Jeep Renegade 4xe charge at 22kW?+

No, the Jeep Renegade 4xe has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 7.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Jeep Renegade 4xe need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging. The Renegade 4xe onboard charger accepts up to 7.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable is the right match. A 22kW cable brings no benefit. A 5m length is suitable for most driveways.

Can the Jeep Renegade 4xe use DC rapid chargers?+

No. The Renegade 4xe has no DC rapid charging capability and no CCS port. All charging is AC only via the Type 2 inlet, at a maximum of 7.4kW. If you need DC rapid charging in a Jeep plug-in, the Renegade 4xe is not able to provide it.

How long does the Jeep Renegade 4xe take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox the 11.4kWh battery takes under two hours from empty. On a standard 3-pin domestic socket the same battery fills in around three to four hours. Either way, an overnight charge is more than ample.

Is the Renegade 4xe cable the same as the Compass 4xe?+

Yes. Both use a Type 2 inlet and both onboard chargers are rated at up to 7.4kW single-phase with no DC capability. A Type 2 to Type 2 cable in a 7.4kW rating suits both cars equally. The same 5m lead works for either vehicle.
