KGM Korando e-Motion
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your Korando e-Motion+−
The KGM Korando e-Motion has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 6.6kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?
Charging
the KGM Korando e-Motion.
The KGM Korando e-Motion (sold in the UK under the earlier SsangYong name) is a first-generation fully electric compact SUV, available here from 2022. It carries a 61.5kWh battery, with around 56kWh usable, and charges through a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for DC rapid sessions. For day-to-day charging at home or on public AC points, you connect using a Type 2 to Type 2 cable.
The Korando e-Motion's onboard AC charger is rated at 6.6kW on a single phase. That is slightly below the 7.4kW ceiling of a typical UK home wallbox, so the wallbox simply delivers what the car can accept. For rapid top-ups on public DC chargers, the car supports up to 80kW, but those chargers have their own tethered cables and do not require anything you buy separately.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Korando e-Motion need?
The Korando e-Motion tops out at 6.6kW on AC, so a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable covers the full speed this car can draw at home. There is no advantage to choosing a 22kW three-phase cable: the car's single-phase charger cannot use that extra capacity, and you would be paying more for no practical benefit.
A 5m cable handles the majority of home driveways without trouble. If you park some distance from your wallbox or the socket tends to end up on the far side of the vehicle, a 7m lead provides the extra reach and avoids any awkward stretching.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the 61.5kWh battery from empty on an off-peak tariff of around 7.5p per kWh costs roughly £4.60. On a standard rate of around 27p per kWh the same charge is around £17. Home charging overnight on a dedicated EV tariff keeps running costs well below the cost of petrol. Public DC rapid charging is considerably more expensive per kWh, so it is best reserved for longer journeys. Check current rates, as tariffs change.

KGM Korando e-Motion FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the KGM Korando e-Motion charge at 22kW?+−
No, the KGM Korando e-Motion has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 6.6kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the KGM Korando e-Motion need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. The Korando e-Motion charges at up to 6.6kW on AC, so a 7.4kW rated cable is the right choice. Rapid DC charging at public points uses the charger's own tethered cable rather than one you buy.
Can the KGM Korando e-Motion use a 22kW charger?+−
No. The Korando e-Motion has a single-phase 6.6kW onboard AC charger, so it cannot draw more than 6.6kW on AC regardless of what the charger or cable is rated for. A 22kW public AC point will simply charge the car at 6.6kW. DC rapid charging up to 80kW is supported via the CCS port.
How long does the KGM Korando e-Motion take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW home wallbox the car charges at its maximum 6.6kW, taking around 9.5 to 10 hours for a full charge from empty. A standard 3-pin socket at 2.3kW would take well over 24 hours and is best treated as a backup rather than a regular option.
What length cable do I need for the KGM Korando e-Motion?+−
A 5m cable is adequate for most driveways. If your wallbox is set back from the parking spot or you park in a way that puts extra distance between the socket and the cable, a 7m or 10m lead gives you more flexibility without any compromise to charging speed.
