Why this fits your Emeya+

The Lotus Emeya has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 22kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 22kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which Lotus Emeya versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Lotus Emeya, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Lotus Emeya R
  • Lotus Emeya S
  • Lotus Emeya GT
  • Lotus Emeya Le
  • Lotus Emeya GT SE
  • Lotus Emeya Sport

Whichever Emeya trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Lotus Emeya.

The Lotus Emeya is a large electric saloon on sale in the UK from 2024, sharing its 800V platform with the Eletre SUV. It carries a 102kWh battery and peaks at around 400kW DC rapid charging, making it one of the fastest-charging electric saloons available. Like the Eletre, the Emeya features a 22kW three-phase AC onboard charger as standard, accessed via a Type 2 inlet. Trim levels include GT, S, R, Sport, and GT SE.

For home and public AC charging, the cable you bring is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The Emeya's 22kW AC capability matters most at public three-phase AC chargers, which are found at hotels, car parks, and some workplaces. At a single-phase UK home wallbox the rate is capped at 7.4kW whatever the cable or charger rating. DC rapid charging at up to approximately 400kW uses the charger's own tethered cable, not one you supply.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Emeya need?

Because the Emeya's onboard AC charger supports 22kW on three phases, the cable you choose does make a real difference at three-phase public AC charge points. On a 22kW rated cable the Emeya can draw its full 22kW there, covering around 4.5 to 5 hours for a near-full charge. With a 7.4kW cable on that same 22kW charger, the rate is capped at 7.4kW, which extends charge time considerably. If you plan to use 22kW public AC points, the 22kW cable is the better investment.

At home on a standard single-phase UK supply, however, the charge rate is 7.4kW regardless of cable choice, since the single-phase supply is the bottleneck. If home charging is your primary use and 22kW public AC points are not part of your regular routine, a 7.4kW cable is entirely sufficient and the price difference is difficult to justify on speed grounds alone.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 102kWh battery from empty at an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh costs roughly £7.50 to £8. At a standard rate of around 27p per kWh the same fill costs around £28. Most daily use involves partial charges rather than filling from empty, so typical overnight costs are much lower. Public rapid charging is substantially dearer per kWh but is brief given the Emeya's high DC rate. Check current tariffs with your energy supplier.

Lotus Emeya FAQs

Good
questions.

Contact us
What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Lotus Emeya need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Emeya supports 22kW on three-phase AC, so a 22kW rated cable is the right choice if you use 22kW public AC charge points regularly. For home charging on a single-phase wallbox, a 7.4kW cable delivers the full available rate of 7.4kW. DC rapid charging uses the rapid charger's own tethered cable.

Can the Lotus Emeya charge at 22kW?+

Yes. The Emeya has a standard 22kW three-phase AC onboard charger. On a three-phase 22kW public AC supply with a 22kW rated cable, it draws the full 22kW. On a typical UK single-phase home wallbox the rate is limited to 7.4kW, whatever cable you use. Three-phase home supplies do exist but are not common in UK residential properties.

How long does the Lotus Emeya take to charge?+

On a 22kW three-phase public AC charger, the 102kWh battery takes around 4.5 to 5 hours from low to full. On a 7.4kW single-phase home wallbox that extends to around 14 hours from empty, so overnight charging at home covers the day's use. DC rapid charging peaks at around 400kW, making fast top-ups practical on motorway journeys.

What length cable do I need for the Lotus Emeya?+

A 5m cable is a reasonable starting point for most home driveways. The Emeya is a sizeable saloon, so the distance from wallbox to charging port can vary depending on how you park. A 7m cable gives more scope if the connection needs to run past the front or rear of the car, and avoids the need to reposition on the driveway.
