Charge speeds

Across the Lotus range.

Every Lotus here uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the range. AC charging tops out at 22kW across the range. A cable never charges faster than your car's on-board charger or your home supply allows, so on a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4 kW cable gives the full speed available.

Speeds are on-board AC limits. Rapid DC uses the station's own cable.

Charging guide

Charging
your Lotus.

Lotus's electric range consists of two models: the Eletre, a large performance SUV with a 112kWh battery, and the Emeya, a four-door GT saloon with a 102kWh battery. Both are fully electric and both use a Type 2 inlet, so the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable works across the entire Lotus range for home and public AC charging.

Both the Eletre and Emeya are fitted with 22kW three-phase onboard AC chargers, which puts them among the highest AC charging rates available in any car. Whether that speed is accessible at home depends on your supply, and this is what determines the cable worth choosing. Pick your model below for exact charging times and its recommended cable, or read the brand-wide guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a Lotus need?

Both Lotus models charge through a Type 2 inlet, so you need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A 5m lead suits most driveways and home wallboxes. Choose 7m or 10m if you park on the street or your wallbox is positioned away from the car. No Lotus model needs a Type 1 cable.

The Eletre and Emeya both have 22kW three-phase onboard chargers. Almost all UK homes are single-phase, which caps home charging at 7.4kW regardless of cable rating, so on a standard home supply a 7.4kW cable is sufficient. A 22kW rated cable only earns its cost if you have a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC chargers, where both models will draw their full 22kW and charge their large batteries considerably faster.

If you do have access to a three-phase supply or plan to use 22kW public AC points frequently, the Eletre and Emeya will benefit more than most cars from a 22kW cable given their battery sizes. On a single-phase home, though, a standard 7.4kW cable is all you need.

Contact us
Do both Lotus EVs use a Type 2 charging cable?+

Yes. Both the Lotus Eletre and Emeya use a Type 2 inlet and take the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging. Neither Lotus requires a Type 1 cable.

What charging cable does a Lotus Eletre need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most driveways. The Eletre has a 22kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a standard single-phase home supply it charges at 7.4kW. A 22kW cable only reaches its potential on a three-phase supply or at a 22kW public AC charger.

Can a Lotus charge at 22kW AC?+

Yes. Both the Eletre and Emeya support 22kW AC charging on three phases, which is among the fastest AC rates available in any car. On a standard single-phase UK home supply they charge at 7.4kW, so a 22kW cable is only worth the extra cost if you have three-phase access or use 22kW public AC chargers regularly.

Is the cable the same for the Lotus Eletre and Emeya?+

Yes. Both models use a Type 2 inlet with a 22kW three-phase onboard charger, so the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits both. The Eletre carries a 112kWh battery and the Emeya a 102kWh battery, so full charge times differ, but the cable type is identical.

What length cable do I need for my Lotus?+

5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Go for 7m or 10m if you park on the street, share a charger, or your wallbox is mounted a long way from the car. Longer cables are heavier to coil with a thick 22kW rated lead, so buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably.
