Lucid Air
Charging cable
Charges about 195% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your Air+−
The Lucid Air has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 22kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 22kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which Lucid Air versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Lucid Air, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Lucid Air Touring
- Lucid Air Pure AWD
- Lucid Air Pure RWD
- Lucid Air Sapphire
- Lucid Air Touring Grand
- Lucid Air Dream Edition P
Whichever Air trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

Charging
the Lucid Air.
The Lucid Air is a large electric saloon from the California-based manufacturer Lucid, available in Europe from 2024. It carries an 84kWh usable battery and charges on DC at up to around 250kW on an 800V architecture. For AC charging, the Air is one of a small number of cars with a 22kW three-phase onboard charger, via a Type 2 inlet. UK right-hand drive availability was not confirmed at the time of writing, so UK buyers should verify current specification and availability directly.
For home wallbox and public AC charging, the cable needed is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The Air's 22kW onboard AC charger is a genuine advantage at three-phase public AC chargers, which are found at some hotels, car parks, and workplaces. On a standard single-phase UK home supply, however, AC charging is limited to 7.4kW regardless of the cable rating. DC rapid charging at up to 250kW uses the charger's own tethered lead.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Air need?
The Lucid Air's 22kW three-phase onboard charger means it can use the full output of a 22kW public AC charger, something most electric cars cannot do. At a 22kW point, with a 22kW rated cable, the Air can draw its full 22kW, covering the 84kWh battery in around 4 hours. A 7.4kW cable on that same charger limits the rate to 7.4kW, extending that to around 11.5 hours. If you regularly use 22kW public AC charge points, the 22kW cable is a meaningful upgrade rather than just a theoretical one.
For home charging, the picture is different. UK residential supplies are almost universally single-phase, which caps the charge rate at 7.4kW whatever the cable. On a home wallbox, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable delivers the full speed your supply allows, and there is no speed benefit to the heavier cable at home. The choice between cable ratings comes down to how often you use three-phase public AC chargers.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 84kWh usable battery from empty at an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh costs roughly £6 to £6.50. At a standard rate of around 27p per kWh the same fill costs around £23. Most daily use involves partial top-ups rather than full charges, so the real-world overnight cost is lower. Public rapid charging rates are substantially higher per kWh. Check current tariffs with your energy supplier.

Lucid Air FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Lucid Air need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Lucid Air uses a standard Type 2 inlet for AC charging and supports up to 22kW on three phases. For use at 22kW public AC charge points a 22kW rated cable is needed to access the full rate. For home charging on a single-phase wallbox, a 7.4kW cable is sufficient. DC rapid charging uses the charger's own tethered cable.
Can the Lucid Air charge at 22kW?+−
Yes. The Air has a 22kW three-phase onboard charger, which means it can draw 22kW at a compatible three-phase public AC charge point when used with a 22kW rated cable. At a standard UK single-phase home wallbox the rate is capped at 7.4kW regardless of cable or onboard charger rating. Three-phase home supplies are uncommon in UK residential properties.
How long does the Lucid Air take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW single-phase home wallbox, the 84kWh usable battery takes around 11 to 12 hours from empty, comfortably covered overnight. At a 22kW three-phase public AC charger with the right cable, the same fill takes around 4 hours. DC rapid charging at up to 250kW makes brief top-ups practical on longer trips.
What length cable do I need for the Lucid Air?+−
A 5m cable suits most home driveways. The Air is a long saloon, so the gap between wallbox and charging port can be significant depending on parking orientation. A 7m cable provides extra reach and avoids the need to angle the car precisely. For public AC charge points, 5m is generally enough as most posts are positioned close to the parking bay.
