Charging guide

Charging
your MAN.

MAN's electric model in the UK is the eTGE, a large panel van that shares its platform with the Volkswagen e-Crafter. It charges through a Type 2 inlet, so it takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and depot AC charging, with a CCS port for rapid DC.

The eTGE charges at up to 7.2kW on a single phase, so the cable choice is simple. Pick it below for its exact charging times, or read the guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a MAN need?

The MAN eTGE uses a Type 2 inlet, so you need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A 5m length suits most charging spots, with 7m or 10m useful at a depot or where the charge point is set back from the van.

The eTGE has a 7.2kW single-phase onboard charger, so a standard 7.4kW cable already delivers everything the van can draw on AC. There is no benefit to a larger 22kW cable, because the eTGE cannot charge faster than 7.2kW on AC whatever cable you use.

What charging cable does the MAN eTGE need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most spots. The eTGE has a 7.2kW single-phase onboard charger, so a 7.4kW cable gives its full AC speed and there is no need for a bigger one.

Can the MAN eTGE charge at 22kW?+

No. It has a 7.2kW single-phase onboard charger, so it cannot charge above 7.2kW on AC and a 22kW cable makes no difference. Rapid DC charging is separate and uses the charge point's own cable.

Does the MAN eTGE use Type 1 or Type 2?+

Type 2 for AC charging, with a CCS port for rapid DC. It does not need a Type 1 cable, so a Type 2 to Type 2 lead is the one to buy.

Is the MAN eTGE the same as the VW e-Crafter?+

They share a platform and charge the same way: a Type 2 inlet and up to 7.2kW single-phase AC. The same 5m 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable suits both vans.

What length cable do I need for a MAN eTGE?+

5m suits most charging spots. Step up to 7m or 10m at a depot, where the charge point is set back, or where you park away from it. Buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably.
