MAN eTGE
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your eTGE+−
The MAN eTGE has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.2kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?
Charging
the MAN eTGE.
The MAN eTGE is a large electric panel van, produced from 2019 to 2022 and sharing its platform with the Volkswagen e-Crafter. It carries a 35.8kWh battery and was designed primarily for commercial fleet and depot use. AC charging runs through a Type 2 inlet at up to 7.2kW single-phase, and CCS DC rapid charging is supported at up to 40kW. UK right-hand drive volumes were limited, so anyone considering a used eTGE should confirm UK specification. A new-generation eTGE was announced in 2025.
For AC charging at a workplace charger, depot post, or public AC point, the cable you bring is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The eTGE's 7.2kW onboard AC charger is essentially at the ceiling of what a standard 7.4kW UK supply provides. DC rapid charging at up to 40kW uses the charger's own tethered CCS cable, not one you carry.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the eTGE need?
The eTGE's onboard AC charger peaks at 7.2kW single-phase, which is effectively the same as a standard UK 7.4kW wallbox output. A 7.4kW rated Type 2 cable is the right choice: it delivers the full AC charging speed the van is capable of and there is no practical reason to use a higher-rated cable on this vehicle.
For fleet operators, a 5m cable handles most depot and workplace charging posts. Where the van needs to park some distance from the charging post, a 7m cable adds useful flexibility without excess length to manage. The eTGE is a large vehicle, and routing the cable past the bodywork to the inlet may require more reach than a car of the same wheelbase would need.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the 35.8kWh battery from empty at an off-peak rate of around 7.5p per kWh costs roughly £2.70. At a standard rate of around 27p per kWh the same charge costs around £10. For a commercial vehicle the running cost advantage over diesel depends heavily on mileage, charging tariffs, and whether overnight depot charging is available. Check current business energy rates, which differ from domestic tariffs.

MAN eTGE FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the MAN eTGE charge at 22kW?+−
No, the MAN eTGE has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 7.2kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the MAN eTGE need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for AC charging. The eTGE's onboard AC charger is rated at 7.2kW single-phase, so a standard 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the correct choice for depot, workplace, or public AC charge points. CCS DC rapid charging at up to 40kW uses the charger's own tethered cable.
Can the MAN eTGE rapid charge?+−
Yes. The eTGE has a CCS port for DC rapid charging at up to 40kW. The 35.8kWh battery takes around an hour from low to around 80% at a 40kW rapid charger, using the charger's own tethered cable. AC charging via the Type 2 inlet is limited to 7.2kW and takes around 5 hours for a full charge.
How long does the MAN eTGE take to charge?+−
On a 7.4kW AC wallbox the 35.8kWh battery takes around 5 hours from empty to full, given the 7.2kW onboard charger. At a 40kW CCS rapid charger a charge from around 20% to 80% takes under an hour. For depot operations, overnight AC charging is the standard approach, easily filling the battery for the next day's route.
What length cable do I need for the MAN eTGE?+−
A 5m cable works well for depot or workplace charge posts positioned close to the parking bay. For longer runs from post to inlet, or where the vehicle parks at an angle to the charger, a 7m cable gives more flexibility. Commercial operators often standardise on 7m for mixed-fleet depots. Avoid using extension cables or adaptors not rated for the current draw.
