Why this fits your CX-60 PHEV+

The Mazda CX-60 PHEV has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.2kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Mazda CX-60 PHEV.

The Mazda CX-60 PHEV is a large plug-in hybrid SUV that went on sale in the UK in 2022, pairing a 2.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a 17.8kWh battery. In pure electric mode it offers a meaningful EV range for daily commutes, with the petrol engine stepping in seamlessly for longer journeys. The plug-in charging inlet is a Type 2 socket, and because this is a PHEV there is no CCS or rapid DC charging capability.

Charging the CX-60 PHEV uses a Type 2 to Type 2 cable connected to a home wallbox or public AC point. The onboard AC charger is rated at 7.2kW on a single phase, so the car draws up to 7.2kW from a 7.4kW home wallbox or any compatible AC charge point. No rapid DC charging is possible on this car, so all top-ups use your cable.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the CX-60 PHEV need?

The CX-60 PHEV's onboard charger is rated at 7.2kW on a single phase, just below the 7.4kW maximum that a standard UK home wallbox or 32A public AC charger delivers. A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the correct choice here and covers every AC charging scenario the car supports. There is no benefit to buying a 22kW three-phase cable, as the CX-60 PHEV does not support three-phase charging.

A 5m cable suits the vast majority of home driveways and public charge points without excess slack. The battery is small enough that even a modest AC charge session restores it fully, so length is mainly about reaching the charge point comfortably. If your wallbox is positioned some distance from where you normally park, a 7m cable gives extra flexibility without any charging penalty.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 17.8kWh battery from empty costs roughly £1.30 at an off-peak rate of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £5 at a standard rate of roughly 27p. The small battery means charging is inexpensive and quick regardless of tariff. Topping up daily from a home wallbox adds very little to electricity bills compared to petrol savings on typical commutes. Check current rates, as tariffs vary.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Mazda CX-60 PHEV need?+

The Mazda CX-60 PHEV has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 7.2kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Mazda CX-60 PHEV need for charging?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The CX-60 PHEV has a Type 2 inlet and charges at up to 7.2kW on a single phase. A 7.4kW single-phase cable is the right choice for home and public AC charging. There is no rapid DC charging on this car, so all charging goes through your Type 2 cable.

Can the Mazda CX-60 PHEV charge at 22kW?+

No. The CX-60 PHEV's onboard AC charger is limited to 7.2kW on a single phase. It does not support three-phase charging, so a 22kW cable offers no advantage. A standard 7.4kW single-phase cable is all you need and will deliver the car's full charging rate.

How long does the Mazda CX-60 PHEV take to charge?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox, the 17.8kWh battery takes a little under 2.5 hours from empty. On a standard 3-pin plug via a granny charger it takes around 6 to 7 hours. The small battery makes it easy to top up frequently, and most owners plug in overnight or during the working day for a full charge.

Does the Mazda CX-60 PHEV support rapid DC charging?+

No. The CX-60 PHEV cannot rapid charge on DC. There is no CCS or CHAdeMO inlet. All charging is done through the Type 2 AC socket at up to 7.2kW. This means a dedicated wallbox or public AC charge point is the fastest option available.
