Why this fits your Artura+

The McLaren Artura has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 3.3kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

Which McLaren Artura versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every McLaren Artura, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • McLaren Artura V6 Ssg
  • McLaren Artura V6 Ac B
  • McLaren Artura V6 As B

Whichever Artura trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the McLaren Artura.

The McLaren Artura is a high-performance PHEV supercar built on a new carbon fibre architecture, on sale in the UK since 2022, with a Spider (convertible) variant added in 2024. It pairs a twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine with an electric motor and a 7.4kWh battery, with the electric component adding torque and efficiency alongside the combustion engine rather than providing standalone long-range EV driving. The charging inlet is a Type 2 socket, and there is no DC rapid charging capability.

Charging the Artura uses a Type 2 to Type 2 cable from a home wallbox or public AC point. The onboard AC charger is rated at just 3.3kW, which is slow by modern EV standards and reflects the fact that the battery is small and the car is designed primarily for performance rather than plug-in convenience. The battery typically charges from empty in around two and a half hours at this rate.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Artura need?

The McLaren Artura charges at a maximum of 3.3kW on a single phase, so the cable rating has very little practical bearing on charge speed. Any Type 2 to Type 2 cable will deliver the car's full 3.3kW rate, whether it is rated to 7.4kW or 22kW. A standard 7.4kW cable is the sensible, proportionate choice for a battery of this size.

Because the Artura charges slowly by design, a 5m cable is more than adequate in almost all situations. Plugging in at home overnight or during a visit easily restores the battery before you need the car again. There is no benefit to a longer cable given how the car is likely to be used, but a 7m lead is available if the charge point layout demands it.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 7.4kWh battery from empty costs under £1 at an off-peak rate of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £2 at a standard rate of roughly 27p. The battery is small enough that even slow AC charging replenishes it in a few hours. The primary running cost for the Artura is petrol for the V6, but having the battery topped up consistently delivers the best performance and efficiency from the hybrid system. McLaren Artura FAQs

Good
questions.

Contact us
Can the McLaren Artura charge at 22kW?+

No, the McLaren Artura has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 3.3kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the McLaren Artura need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Artura's onboard AC charger is rated at 3.3kW on a single phase, so any Type 2 cable is compatible. A standard 7.4kW rated cable delivers the car's full charging rate. There is no DC rapid charging inlet, so all top-ups use the Type 2 AC socket.

Can the McLaren Artura charge at a public rapid charger?+

No. The Artura has no DC rapid charging capability. All charging is done through the Type 2 AC socket at up to 3.3kW. This means the car is not suited to en-route rapid top-ups, and charging is best done at home or at a destination with an AC wallbox.

How long does the McLaren Artura take to charge?+

On a standard home wallbox or any AC charge point, the 7.4kWh battery takes around two to two and a half hours from empty at the car's maximum 3.3kW rate. A 3-pin socket charges at around 2.3kW, adding another hour or so. The small battery means even a partial top-up during a visit restores most of the electric range.

Does the Artura need a special cable because it is a supercar?+

No. The Artura uses a standard Type 2 inlet, the same as the vast majority of plug-in cars in the UK. A regular Type 2 to Type 2 cable works perfectly. The only notable difference from most EVs is the slow 3.3kW AC charge rate, which means the car charges more slowly but is otherwise entirely compatible with standard equipment.
