Mercedes-Benz GLE350de
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your GLE350de+−
The Mercedes-Benz GLE350de has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.4kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Mercedes-Benz GLE350de.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE PHEV covers two variants sold under the V167 generation from 2019: the GLE 350de, a diesel-electric plug-in hybrid, and the GLE 400e, a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid. Both share the same 31.2kWh battery pack and charging hardware, making them among the more generously sized PHEVs available in the large SUV class. The Type 2 inlet handles AC charging, and a separate CCS port allows DC rapid charging up to around 60kW.
When charging at home or at a public AC point, you bring your own Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The GLE PHEV's onboard AC charger is rated at 7.4kW on a single phase, which aligns neatly with what a standard UK home wallbox delivers. At 7.4kW, the 31kWh battery takes around four to five hours from empty, which fits within most overnight windows.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the GLE350de need?
The GLE PHEV's onboard charger peaks at 7.4kW on a single-phase supply. That is exactly the rate a standard UK home wallbox delivers, so the two are well matched. A 7.4kW Type 2 cable gives you the full charging speed the car can draw at home, and there is no case for stepping up: a 22kW three-phase cable does not add speed here because the car's own charger limits AC input to 7.4kW.
The GLE PHEV also supports DC rapid charging through its CCS port, but that connection uses the charger's own tethered cable at the public rapid charger, not a cable you carry. For home and AC top-ups, a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable in 5m covers most situations, or choose 7m to 10m if the run from your wallbox to the parking spot is longer than average.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 31.2kWh battery from empty costs roughly £2 to £2.50 at an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £8 to £9 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. At 7.4kW charging, even a full charge from empty takes under five hours, so an overnight session on a cheap tariff is the most economical approach. Check current rates before budgeting, as tariffs change frequently.

Mercedes-Benz GLE350de FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the Mercedes-Benz GLE350de need?+−
The Mercedes-Benz GLE350de has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 7.4kW.
Can the Mercedes-Benz GLE350de charge at 22kW?+−
No, the Mercedes-Benz GLE350de has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 7.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Mercedes GLE PHEV need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for AC charging at home or at public charge points. The GLE 350de and GLE 400e both use a Type 2 inlet with a 7.4kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable is the right match and gives the full home charging speed. The car's CCS port for DC rapid charging uses the charger's own tethered lead.
How long does the GLE PHEV take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW home wallbox the 31.2kWh battery takes around four to five hours from empty. That easily covers an overnight charge. On a 3-pin domestic socket the rate drops to around 2 to 3kW and charging takes significantly longer, so a dedicated wallbox is the sensible choice for regular use.
Does the GLE PHEV support DC rapid charging?+−
Yes. The GLE 350de and GLE 400e both have a CCS port supporting DC rapid charging up to around 60kW. That uses the charger's own tethered cable at the rapid charger, not anything you supply. A Type 2 to Type 2 cable covers only the AC charging side of things.
Can the GLE PHEV charge at 22kW?+−
No. The onboard AC charger is rated at 7.4kW single phase, so 7.4kW is its AC ceiling regardless of what cable or charge point you use. A 22kW-rated cable or public 22kW AC point would still only deliver 7.4kW to the car.
