Why this fits your EQV+

The Mercedes-Benz EQV has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Mercedes-Benz EQV.

The Mercedes-Benz EQV is a large electric MPV and van variant, on sale in the UK from 2020. Built on the V-Class chassis, it is designed for passenger transport, private hire, and prestige airport transfer use, and it is one of the few electric vehicles in this segment. The EQV 300 carries around 90kWh usable energy and rapid charges at up to 110kW via CCS. AC charging uses a standard Type 2 inlet with a Type 2 to Type 2 cable.

The EQV's onboard AC charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases. With a battery of this size, AC charging alone is a slow way to recover a meaningful range, so most EQV operators use DC rapid charging for anything beyond overnight home or depot charging. For AC wallbox and public AC point charging, bring your own Type 2 to Type 2 cable.

The EQV's large battery and commercial-leaning use mean DC rapid charging is more important than for most passenger EVs. Plan routes around rapid charger availability for longer operational days. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the EQV need?

The EQV's onboard AC charger peaks at 11kW on three phases. Most UK home and small business electricity supplies are single-phase, which caps AC charging at 7.4kW. For overnight depot or home charging on a single-phase connection, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable delivers the full available speed without any waste on cable rating.

Operators with access to a three-phase supply at a garage or commercial premises will benefit from a 22kW cable, as the EQV can then draw its full 11kW. Given the large battery, the difference between 7.4kW and 11kW overnight is meaningful for topping up between shifts. On a single-phase supply the cable rating makes no difference to charge speed, so the choice hinges on your supply type.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the approximately 90kWh battery from empty costs around £6.75 on an off-peak commercial EV tariff at roughly 7.5p per kWh, or around £24 at a standard rate of roughly 27p per kWh. For fleet or private hire operators, the difference between off-peak and standard tariff rates has a significant effect on running costs at this battery size. Check current tariff rates and any available business EV tariffs before calculating operational costs.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Mercedes-Benz EQV need?+

The Mercedes-Benz EQV has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.

Can the Mercedes-Benz EQV charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the Mercedes-Benz EQV has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Mercedes EQV need for charging?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home supplies, depot wallboxes, and public AC charge points. The EQV's onboard AC charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases. On a standard single-phase supply a 7.4kW cable delivers the full available speed. A 22kW cable adds benefit if you have a three-phase supply at your premises or use 22kW public AC charge points.

Can the Mercedes EQV charge at 11kW?+

Yes, on a three-phase supply or a 22kW public AC charge point. The EQV's onboard charger is rated at 11kW on three phases. On a single-phase supply, which is standard in most UK homes, AC charging is capped at 7.4kW regardless of wallbox or cable rating.

How long does the Mercedes EQV take to charge at home or at a depot?+

On a 7.4kW single-phase connection, the approximately 90kWh battery takes around 13 hours from empty, best suited to an overnight charge. On an 11kW three-phase supply that reduces to around 9 hours. For shorter turnarounds between shifts, the EQV's CCS port and up to 110kW DC rapid charging capability is the practical solution.

How fast does the Mercedes EQV DC rapid charge?+

The EQV supports up to 110kW DC rapid charging via CCS. At a suitable rapid charger, a 20 to 80 percent charge takes roughly 40 to 45 minutes. DC charging uses the charger's own tethered cable; the Type 2 cable you purchase is for AC charging only.
