MG MGS6 EV
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your MGS6 EV+−
The MG MGS6 EV has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which MG MGS6 EV versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every MG MGS6 EV, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- MG MGS6 EV RWD 77 kWh
- MG MGS6 EV Dual Motor 77 kWh
Whichever MGS6 EV trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the MG MGS6 EV.
The MGS6 EV is MG's mid-size electric SUV, launched in the UK in late 2025 with a 77kWh NMC battery and a choice of rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive. It uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging and a CCS port for DC rapid charging up to 144kW. The cable you supply for home and public AC sessions is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
MG rates the MGS6's onboard AC charger at up to 11kW on a three-phase supply, though on a typical UK single-phase home circuit it operates at around 7kW. Rapid DC charging at up to 144kW uses the charger's own tethered cable, so you do not need to bring one for those sessions.
UK single-phase supplies limit AC charging to around 7kW. A 22kW cable only earns its keep on three-phase public points. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the MGS6 EV need?
The MGS6's onboard charger can accept up to 11kW on three phases, but the vast majority of UK homes have a single-phase supply, which limits AC charging to around 7kW regardless of the cable or wallbox rating. For home use, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable gives you the full speed your supply can deliver and is the more economical choice.
A 22kW three-phase cable is worth considering if you regularly use 22kW public AC points, where the MGS6 can pull closer to its full 11kW capability. On any single-phase setup, however, both cable ratings result in the same charging speed, so the 22kW option buys potential rather than immediate performance.
What does it cost to charge?
Topping up the 77kWh battery from empty costs around £6 on an off-peak EV tariff of roughly 7.5p per kWh, or around £21 at a standard rate of around 27p. Running on an overnight EV tariff keeps costs low; public rapid charging is typically far more expensive per kWh and is best reserved for longer trips. Always check current tariffs, as they move.

Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the MG MGS6 EV need?+−
The MG MGS6 EV has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.
Can the MG MGS6 EV charge at 22kW?+−
Yes, the MG MGS6 EV has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What cable does the MGS6 EV need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for all AC charging, whether at a home wallbox or a public AC point. MG rates the onboard charger at up to 11kW three-phase; on a typical single-phase UK home it draws around 7kW, so a 7.4kW cable covers everyday charging and costs less than a 22kW option.
Can the MGS6 charge at 22kW?+−
The MGS6's onboard charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases, so it cannot charge at 22kW regardless of what cable or charger you use. On a three-phase public AC point it can pull its full 11kW. On a standard UK single-phase home supply it is limited to around 7kW.
How long does the MGS6 EV take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW home wallbox the 77kWh battery takes roughly 11 hours from empty, which fits comfortably within an overnight charge. A 3-pin socket at around 2.3kW would take over 30 hours and is best treated as a backup only.
What length cable do I need for the MGS6 EV?+−
A 5m cable is the standard choice and handles most driveways without excess slack. If your wallbox is positioned some distance from where you typically park, or you often reverse in, a 7m or 10m cable gives useful extra reach and avoids the cable being stretched tight.
